If it was possible to give Discover England Tours (Suzy and Paul) more than 5 stars we would. We had a fantastic 8 day stay with them in Shillingstone.
We could not have wished for a better experience-- the hospitality was great - the daily tours were flexible and both Suzy and Paul were extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. Nothing we asked for was too much. I nearly forgot to mention the home cooked meals were great as well>
-what else can one say.? It was one of the best touring experiences we have ever had. It was a rare privilege indeed .

Dear Mike - thank you for taking time to leave your review for us. We are delighted that you were delighted! It was our pleasure to share the delights of Dorset and beyond with you. Galloping horses, misty valleys, Cotswolds villages, rainbows, sun at Durdle Door and more. Thank you for choosing us for your England stay. All best wishes from Susy and Paul.

We spent a week with tour guides Susy and Paul Wilson, staying in their historic home, served wonderful meals and spending time with them in the picturesque English countryside.
They are highly professional, knowledgeable and overall, we had a fabulous time.
We highly recommend them to anyone considering a trip like this!

It has always been a dream to visit the quintessential English countryside with its rolling green hillside pastures, winding country lanes and thatched roof cottages. Discover England tours fulfilled that marvelously. The bonus was meeting Susy and Paul and staying in their lovely 300 year old thatched cottage home. We travelled each day to sites so rich in history - Bath, Stonehenge, Winchester, Lacock, Lulworth and the bonus - Highclere Castle. Each was more interesting than the other. When the weather occasionally challenged our sightseeing, Paul was great at helping us plan our outings hour by hour so we could get the most out of our touring. Mike, our driver-tourguide was an absolute wealth of local information that no tour book or internet site could ever rival. And each night, a lovely, well prepared dinner topped off the day’s activities. We particularly relished all the homebaked breads, rolls and scones - made from locally milled flour and served with homemade marmalade and jams. Our only regret was not being able to stay longer and hopefully, one day, we would hope to return. Susy and Paul surely provide a uniquely lovely holiday.

Great hosts, great English Cottage, great food, and excellent tour guides. Combine the relaxation and beauty of rural England with the opportunity to take more pictures than ever imagined. It was a great trip in every way -- thanks to Paul and Susy's professional and personal style. From the initial inquiries to the final hugs and good-byes, everything (including the weather) was great. Highly recommend this trip and have shared our thoughts with friends and colleagues here at home.

A friend and I just returned from a trip to the UK, the highlight of which was the four days spent at Discover England Tour's lovely cottage in Shillingstone, Dorset. Our tour was perfectly tailored to our interests, including fabulous gardens and sights nearby. The grounds and accommodations of Church House were so beautiful and authentically charming. Our hosts Susy and Paul did a wonderful job of planning and arranging everything from delicious meals including their own garden produce to transfers from London.

From the minute we arrived at Church House we had the most wonderful time. We asked Paul to plot out where we should visit, and he picked out the most interesting and beautiful gardens and towns to see. Months before our trip, Susy asked if we would like her to get us tickets to Highgrove Gardens. We said yes, but also asked if could go to Hidcote, which we knew would mean an overnight stay. Paul planned our trip so that we could see Highgrove in the morning and Hidcote in the afternoon. It worked out perfectly. Susy booked us into a lovely B&B and took us to a very nice pub for dinner. As usual, everything was well planned out and we had a great time exploring gardens with Susy. After booking this trip I was a little worried, is six days of gardens too much? But every day and every garden was different. The towns we visited, even if it was just for lunch, were fun to explore, The homes, abbeys, or barns that the gardens surrounded were amazing. And none of it would have been possible without Paul, Susy or Mike driving us on narrow, twisty roads through the beautiful Dorset countryside. Church House was a perfect place to stay. The rooms were comfortable. The dinners that Susy and Paul served every night were delicious, and very welcome after a busy day. Church House looks like it is from a storybook, and overlooks fields that are exactly what you want English fields to look like, down to the sheep. There is even a walking path out the back door if you care for a ramble. We wanted to visit some English gardens without having to drive or be on a bus tour and Discover England Tours did just that and more. I truly can't thank Susy and Paul enough for such a wonderful stay. Now I just have to figure out how to return for another visit. I'd love to go on some walking tours that I know Paul would plan perfectly.

Dear Latane - thank you very much for taking time to write a review about your stay with us. We are very pleased that you had a wonderful visit. The trip up to the Cotswolds was great wasn't it, from Highgrove to Hidcote, the lavender farm and Bourton House - and such lovely weather! I'd go again any day! We hope that you will return for another trip. There is plenty more to see and we can offer some lovely coastal and countryside walks with distances and gradients to suit your wishes. Last week guests were walking on Ballard Down and Old Harry Rocks and from Lulworth to Durdle Door. The Dorset coast path is absolutely beautiful and you would really enjoy the views and the flora. It was lovely having you stay and we hope to see you again. S & P.

We just returned from a week with Paul & Susy of Discover England Tours. We wanted to sample a variety of English gardens, and they really delivered. We saw 9 very different gardens, with a variety of plants, architecture, and designs. From the Centenary border at Harold Hillier (our favorite), to Italianate design at Iford and Compton Acres, to the original Cottage Garden of East Lambrook; we enjoyed them all.
We were happy Paul, Susy, and Mike shuttled us on the narrow, windy, country lanes, providing continuous narrative on the history, customs, and culture of English life. Paul & Susy were also knowledgeable about the gardens and plants and we appreciated their companionship on our tours.
Additionally, Paul planned two fabulous hikes for us along the Jurrasic coast. The first taking us to the Harry Rocks and chalk cliffs, the second to Durdle Door, both with beautiful views of the English Channel. Mike took us to Chesil Beach, which is a miles long beach of tiny pebbles. Mike also took us on a scenic drive with many photo ops of typical English countryside and small towns.
Church House is a comfortable, quiet retreat at the end of a busy day, where we were greeted each evening with heavenly aromas of our coming dinners. Susy and Paul are both excellent cooks. They prepared tasty meals which included salads fresh from their garden, a main course, and desserts with an English flair. Lemon Posset being our favorite.
Before retreating to our comfortable room, we walked the public footpaths across farmer's fields. We even logged 6 Geocache finds.
We had a great time, and, would highly recommend Discover England Tours to anyone who wants to experience the beautiful gardens of England.

Dear Jimmyv - I think that you really figured out what a stay at Church House is all about! After talking with you about what you both wanted to see, we were able to put together an itinerary exploring a wide range of gardens of different styles. I quite agree that Sir Harold Hilliers Centenary border was looking stunning - and they'll carry that through to late in the season and still be looking great. You also took the opportunity to do two great coastal walks too. Ballard Down and Old Harry Rocks with a pub lunch is hard to beat! We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay and thank you for taking time to leave a review.

Susy and Paul welcomed us with very comfortable rooms, delicious local food, and encouragement to make ourselves at home in their house and garden. The garden tours were beautiful - lots of roses, peonies, iris, and many other flowers blooming in the first week of June. We also got a good look at the beauty of the Dorset landscape while driving to the gardens each day. The last afternoon of our tour was free, and we climbed Hambledon Hill, and Iron Age hill fort near Church House. Views from the top were wonderful, and we made friends with the local cows and sheep. This was a great choice for an English garden tour, thanks to our wonderful hosts!

Three garden enthusiast friends and I decided to leave our husbands at home and finally realize our dream of exploring England’s magnificent gardens. We’d already experienced some of the stars like Sissinghurst, Great Dixter and Hever Castle but wanted to see more of the lesser known but beautiful sites, but how ever to choose?

We searched online to find when and where to best make this happen, and discovered Church House. It seemed almost too good to be true that Susy and Paul Wilson could offer us everything we’d imagined, but they did. Lovely accommodation, delicious food, but most important of all, local knowledge of which gardens were at their peak, with Mike or Susy to take us there while pointing out highlights and the idiosyncratic charms of Dorset en route.

No fretting about the driving, and knowing after a delightful day experiencing in real life gardens and castles you’d only ever imagined - a thoughtfully prepared three course dinner (with a bottle of wine you’d purchased at the local gas station!) would be waiting. We were even able to enjoy the first yield of their home grown Charlotte potatoes in early June - a real delicacy.

Back home in southern Ontario now my goal is to source some of the new perennials I fell in love with, hoping to discover some that will withstand our Canadian winters. Alas I shall never find a way to replicate the lushness, hedgerows, magnificent trees and rolling hills of the English countryside.

A heartfelt thank you to our hosts Susy and Paul Wilson at Church House.

Thank you so much for leaving a lovely review about your stay with us at Church House. We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your tours and that you felt that we had lived up to our promise! I hope that you can find some of the perennials that you liked that will survive an Canadian winter - could be a bit of a challenge! I hope you have a great summer in the garden and hope to see you at Church House another day.
