We stayed here for two days with an 18 and 15 year old. The way the room was arranged made us so comfortable. The rooms have obviously had a recent makeover. So clean and bright and pleasant. It was really peaceful and a great place to hike or just sit and read. I want to come back during the festival and see it in full swing. We really had the best time and it was a tremendous value.

This is a wonderful village of craft cottages. Each cottage has a different craft, along with someone actually doing the craft who is very friendly and willing to share what they are doing. We really enjoyed our time there. The only downside is that it is too expensive for me. That would keep me from returning.

Stay: Lovely little cabins. Clean and updated. Lots of windows with sliding doors and a little bench outside. Beds are a little hard but definitely acceptable. They have a good system for arrivals after 7 pm (ish). We had no trouble following the directions given to us ahead of time in our confirmation phone call. I didn’t answer the first call but they left a succinct voicemail telling me why I should return the call, which is so helpful. Our only (small) issue was that they have a strict rule on how many people (including children) can stay in each room. There are very few options for our family of five - we generally book a room with two doubles or queens and have a little folding cot for our son - but this wasn’t a place where that was ok. They did let us do it, however, since we were coming from quite far and they had no further options, which we appreciated.
Park: I can see how one might be disappointed if the craft village isn’t open; there isn’t a ton outside of it and you can’t even walk through it when closed/without paying. And it is of course a set of small businesses so you are essentially paying to get into a shopping center. However, we really enjoyed watching and hearing about many of the crafters methods and it is all focused on using traditional methods which was super cool. We did hike a trail to the city park which was an interesting place and a nice hike. We also very much appreciated the shuttle from area to area (cabins to restaurant/visitor center to music hall) because the hills are steep!
Overall we enjoyed this little gem - getting there in the dark is a trick for us flat-landers though!

While the visit is somewhat pricey ($30 for two), my partner and I found the Ozark Folk Life Center to be an enjoyable afternoon, watching and learning craft artisans in action. To be sure, these are contemporary practitioners working in traditional crafts. But the broom maker is still making traditional straw brooms, quilter is making quilts, some traditional, other a bit more contemporary, etc.
There are about 10-14 artisans creating works in pottery, woodworking, blacksmithing, apothecary, jewelry, printmaking, and more. All seem friendly enough, responding to questions, or happy for you to watch them work. There are also demonstrations and presentations each day. On the day we were there, they presented on the use of herbs and how to jig dance. Plus there's live music, with a pretty good folk band, that play on and off, all day long.
Contrary to some reviewers, I didn't find the artisans to be too commercialized. This is no Silver Dollar City, for comparison's sake. But, they are selling their work, and I bought two little copper sculptures.

The park consists of a collection of buildings that you can explore at your own pace. Each building specializes in an art or craft and the artisans are very friendly and are wonderful about sharing with visitors. Some have "hands on" opportunities that do not cost any extra that the young ones in our group really enjoyed. Most crafts/arts are historical in nature and there is an old log cabin with a "resident" that is happy to tell you about the history and about life in the cabin.
If you breeze through, you can see it in about two hours, but I highly recommend allowing more time (at least half a day) to visit with the artisans and watch them ply their trade. It's a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with live folk music throughout the day.
A little restaurant is available for sandwiches, ice cream, and scones if you need a meal or snack.
(If you tour Blanchard Springs Caverns and the Ozark Folk Center, you can get a discount on your tickets!)

We thoroughly enjoyed our day and two nights at the Ozark Folk Center. We stayed in one of the cabins on site in a standard suite. The suites are huge and well appointed with lots of windows looking out on the woods. The king bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed a full day in the Craft Village. Each of the craftspeople was quite knowledgable and took evident joy in what they did. There was live music several times a day. When we were there, music was provided by Duane Porterfield who played mountain dulcimer, banjo, guitar, and saw; he was joined by a singer and string bass player, both very good.
We had a decent lunch onsite at the Heritage Cafe. The entire experience was a delight.

We had fun. It was a little commercialized. I still think that it's a fun place to visit but just make sure that you don't go on a Sunday or Monday because they are closed on those days.

Craft Fair - I can’t believe that we paid $15.00 each to walk through a craft fair. Most objects made were pseudo heritage, (some were simply modern) but not genuine early settler authentic. Cannot recommend.

Enjoyed the craft area. My wife was in wheelchair and I had been worried that would be a problem. But I was surprised that this was not the case. We also enjoy the music show.

We are planning a trip and we will be visiting my son whose wife had a baby on Friday to Saturday April 21st to 22nd the Ozark folk center is an hour and a half from where my son lives. We will be eating lunch at 11:00 and probably arriving at the folk center around 2:00. I know the folks center is closed on Sunday and I'm wondering if 2 to 3 hours is enough time for a visit.

I’m trying to get a business name and contact info. I was in the Mountain View area last fall for the Bean Fest and visited a craft store that was between Mtn View and Batesville on highway 14. It was in an old church building and I was thinking it was Rita’s or something like that. I wanted to ask about something I bought while I was there. Can anyone help me out with contact information? Thanks in advance.

Do the musicians perform nightly around the square?

The Ozark Folk Center State Park has concerts at 7pm (doors open at 6) on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Picking on the Square generally takes place most evenings in downtown Mountain View, at a small park located Northwest of the courthouse on Washington Street. It does not have a schedule, is nice weather dependent and the people playing are mostly there to just play and socialize.
What is the cost to camp with a tent. i am not a robot

Ozark Folk Center State Park does not offer camping, however, there are privately owned RV parks in Mount View close to the park.

Thinking of a new, fun place for our next family reunion. Is there an RV campground, with full hookups for about 5 RVs? Also would like to be near cabins for family who don't bring an RV. We probably would need cabins for about 20-30 people. Would like to be near a river or lake for water fun. Some place off the beaten path.

Can I hold my dog or put her in a back pack. She doesn’t do well on leashes? They scare her to death.

Yes, your dog is allowed in the park but, must be appropriately restrained so as to be under the direct physical (not verbal) restrains so to be under physical control by the owner
