We did the entire Independence trail east hike and it was very nice. It is flat enough for a wheel chair and easy enough for anyone to hike it. We saw lots of lovely flowers despite being a little late for the spring burst of flowers. At the end of the trail (2.2 miles) you have a grand view of the very blue Yuba River. I will go again and again.

We took our 70 year old mom and my dad who is in a wheelchair. We took the east trail. It is not that wheelchair friendly unless you have a all terrain wheelchair. Although my husband is super strong made it to the end with a pretty rickety wheelchair with his dad. It is a very easy trail and very pretty views. They have picnic tables at the end where the waterfalls is. We will definitely be back.

Although this trail was the first ever trail for wheelchair access it is no longer. First of all the disabled parking will only allow a really small car. Otherwise your car sticks out in a busy highway. Once we got the car positioned at an angle we rolled to the trail. We wanted West and it was open. The first barrier was a large muddy area with two planks for the wheels. I rolled my wife’s chair backwards very slowly here. Once past that there were too many rocks that twisted the front caster wheels an caused her chair to stop suddenly or to tip. We went about 50 yards like this and went back to the car. Hugely difficult! Here’s the trail in the Nevada City area that’s accessible: Hirschman Trail near Cement Road. You can easily push a wheelchair.4 miles to the big pond and watch the abundant wildlife.

My husband and I walked this trail yesterday. It rained the entire time and it was wonderful! Many small wooden bridges. Lots of bright green moss on rocks and trees. This is a good trail for all levels and abilities. Definitely recommend this trail to everyone!

This is a nice trail if you want a few miles of nature trekking without exertion. It starts at a parking area right on Hwy 49 above Purdon Crossing and heads away from the road on fairly level, easy to manage terrain. The wooden structure with stairs leading down to Rush Creek has been closed for a while now, but you cross the creek on an old wooden mining flume, which runs quite a stretch and affords beautiful views!

We have been here several times. The first time we went on wooden trail but wanted to get to river - we turned down steep dirt road and dis some bushwhacking to a giant swimming hole - gorgeous and for nudists.
The next few times we hiked the other direction and went down a short but steep trail - over a creek and ended up at an amazing swimming hole.
We tend to go here now but early because the people who smoke pot, smoke cigarettes and drink tend to show up later.
Being a bag to collect garbage - the aforementioned people leave their cans, bottle caps and cigarette butts everywhere - we always have to clean up before we can enjoy.

We have been here a couple times.....

Very stroller friendly....

We did the walk in sandals... The area is shaded as well.

The path is scenic.... We took the West path....

The spot at the end of of walk was closed to walk down by the water fall.. however, we still got some really nice pictures.

We would go back.

There are a couple spots with benches and a picnic table to sit and eat lunch...

Anyone planning a trip to Independence Trail near Nevada City:

DO NOT turn onto Rough&Ready hwy towards Jones Bar rd. Unless you have 4x4 with mud tires and are prepared to walk 4 miles up a steep hill before you get to the actual trail

YOU'RE WELCOME 😁

Well, first of all, this is good if you want a flat "walk" and not a hike. Secondly, parking at the trailhead is tricky and dangerous. Third of all, lots of very creepy, nasty broken-down out buildings along this "walk". It was a nice walk with my friend, but we would not go again.
