Came for wine tasting after several people recommended it. They only had four wines available to taste, but compensated with larger pours. I really enjoyed everything I tasted even though I don't typically enjoy white wines, and three out of the four were. Bring lunch or some snacks and plan to stay awhile, as there is seating and beautiful views. It started to get crowded late afternoon on a Sunday, and I saw people bringing blankets and their own chairs, so keep that in mind just in case. Will definitely plan to go back!

The wine tasting was in a cute shed. The hostess was very helpful and we really liked a couple of the wines they make here - especially the Pinot Noir - 2013. One drawback wine is available only by the glass due to the town's bylaws. The only place to sit is outside, but there are tents, umbrellas and plenty of chairs and picnic tables. The view looks over the Mount Holyoke range and it's beautiful. We went on a Sunday and later in the afternoon there's was live music that was also very good. It was a guitarist/singer. His music wasn't loud so people could still carry on conversations. We had a lovely afternoon relaxing with friends and drinking wine. Looking forward to returning in the fall - when the foliage turns! The only bathrooms available are portapotties.

Black Birch

ATMOSPHERE:

Black Birch is neatly situated on a grassy knoll that overlooks much of Easthampton, offering wine lovers a perfect place to sit back and sip. They are not shy with accommodations - between a covered tent with picnic tables, adirondack chairs, and even a little porch, there is plenty of space to relax. A little rustic cabin houses the vineyard’s gift shop and wine tasting room.

SERVICE:

From my visits to Black Birch, I have met two individuals: Molly and Mary. Molly gives the tastings. Her personality and spirit makes the wine tasting fun; her humor and charm will surely not bore you! For $8 you can sample five wines, don’t be afraid to ask for recommendations, because I highly doubt you’ll be disappointed with Molly’s opinion. Mary, on the other hand, is one of the owner’s of the vineyard. Every time I have visited Black Birch, I have found her introducing herself and socializing with the visitors. This is something I truly appreciate as it offers a unique experience. She went into great detail about her selection of grapes and the different varieties she has experimented with. It was fun to hear the point of view from a winemaker!

RECOMMENDATIONS:

You can’t go wrong with their wine tasting - five wines for $8. I did get different amounts with different tastings.

As for wine recommendations, my go-to is their riesling. Surprisingly, it is more dry and not overly sweet. As a lover of red wines, this riesling shines. My runner up is their 2013 Pinot Noir. If it’s available, you MUST take home a bottle of their Iced Wine - albeit expensive, it is truly a remarkable wine that they make in extremely small batches (ask Mary about it!).

OVERALL:

I highly recommend visiting Black Birch if you’re looking for a relaxing afternoon. Stop in, have a wine tasting and find which wines you enjoy most. Pack yourself a lunch or a snack and plunker down with a friend or a good book and enjoy a glass of wine ($8/glass; $4/half glass).

This is a scenic spot in a rural area. We arrived around 6 p.m. last Saturday, unfortunately too late for the wine tasting. The admission charge was $10 a person. We brought a cooler with snacks. Apparently coolers with food are okay but you can't BYOB, since they sell wine here. There was a pizza booth and a cupcake booth for food purchase.

The Ray Mason band was playing and they were quite good. Upon advice of a friend that we ran into there, we ordered a glass of Epic white wine. Smart choice. For $8, we got a nice-sized glass of wine.

It was peaceful and fun to visit with our friends and listen to some music. Unfortunately, a storm arose and we had to run for our car. But, we'll be back.

Great quiet place with nice view. Only downside is that to drink there you can only buy by the glass, not the bottle. But you can bring your own food too!

Nothing fancy here with both inside and outside tasting tables. Nice grounds with plenty of seating to taste your favored selection while enjoying the view. Moderate prices, and opportunities abound to witness local musicians. Worth the trip.

The setting for this winery is just fabulous. It overlooks the Mt Tom range and is situated in a nice open filed. We had been meaning to stop in after travelling by so many times and glad we did. The vines planted here are still young and should be ready to bottle shortly so the vintner is buying different grapes and turning out some new varietals that are quite surprising. Be sure to check their website because they also have some local bands that come and play on weekends. buy a bottle... relax with some music and enjoy the view!

Nice rural setting. Park you car and take a short walk to the tasting room. Wines are very good and our server was very knowledgeable. You can buy a glass of wine and sit outside and enjoy. They do not allow you to to open a bottle on premises.
