Hawkins Point Visitor Center offered free movies and popcorn during winter break, so we took advantage of that! The facility is clean, and staff are friendly. They offer a variety of activities throughout the year: Halloween and Christmas events, and a wildlife fest, all of which are nicely done and well-attended. The grounds are kept tidy, and there are picnic tables available with a great water/dam view. I was disappointed to find, though, that at least half a dozen exhibits are broken, including a computer that plays a quiz, the static electricity "sparker", and a movie near the exhibit that details the working parts of the power dam. The plexiglass wall that used to feature bubbles has been out of service for years, as have been some of the exhibits. I'm sure someone at NYPA can repair or replace the broken things.

This is a great place for the family. Shows how the powder damn was built, how the electricity is produced, hands on activities. In the summer they have family friendly movies with free popcorn in air conditioned theater.

They offer free movies every Friday at 1:30. They tend to choose the title the day before. They also have summer movie days on Tuesdays 3 different show times of 10,1 and 3. They have movies during school winter and spring vacations.

My wife and I took our two grandsons (ages 12 and 9) here on a rainy day. We have lived in the area for 40 plus years and have only been here one other time many years ago. Considering how off the beaten path it is we were surprised that there were a number of visitors young and old alike. There are a lot of learning opportunities for those interested, but for the kids the hands on stuff will keep them busy. Hey, they were even serving popcorn! I learned a few things myself, and the 9 year old said it was the best part of his visit with us.

Certainly worth the stop. Too bad it was rainy because the grounds looked nice as well.

Definitely worth a stop. The view of the dam alone (and you can go out on a deck) are fantastic. Lots of exhibits you can read explaining more of what you are seeing. Not as much hands on as more updated museums offer, but we were told they were working on some new things and look forward to coming back. But right now adults were more interested than kids, who didn't want to read anything but who enjoyed the bike exhibit and water bubbles. Nice picnic area outside if it's a nice day - views of the water, ducks, dam, boats going by. Kids had trouble playing in the lawn due to goose poop, but that's pretty unavoidable. I heard they also have movies in their theater year round, which we didn't have time for, but is a great idea.

If you aren't much of a science person, this isn't the place for you. The interactive exhibits are all centered around energy and electricity experiments and information on how this powers NY State. It was the end of a long day of touring museums and nature centers and I was tired so maybe that is why I was bored to death with this center. My husand, on the other hand, loved it because he is an engineer. Many of the kids who were there seemed to be enjoying all the interactive things they could play with. There is a deck outside where you can look at the St. Lawrence River and the power plant. It was a rainy day so that also detracted from the views. There were two kids at the front desk and they were answering questions and guiding people around. You can learn alot there if you are up to it. I just wanted dinner!!

This placed is surprisingly entertaining with great views of the St. Lawrence River, a movie shows every half hour and a hands on look at how the power dam works and how it was built.

Super fun day, free bounce houses, slides, etc for the kids. Fun activities inside as well, including a craft! Each of my kiddos got to make a visor and got some bubbles too! They loved the exhibits inside as well and enjoyed learning more about electricity! They are 8, 7 and 5. Will definitely return! The staff were awesome, super friendly and helpful. It was also nice and clean!
