An absolutely beautiful area. We walked/hiked the Mammoth trail and it's a little over half a mile with slight dips and raises in elevation. A pretty easy hike. The tree colors are starting to really brighten up and it was a lot of fun. The Ice Age visitor center is really fun too.

This recreation area is very large, and the biggest gem (actually gems) are lakes - and more lakes. Most are small kettle lakes - depressions left behind by melting glacier. I was only able to walk couple trails - Circle trail and Mammoth Trail - and visited David R. Obey Ice Age Interpretive Center, due to a lack of time to explore more. Will definitely be coming back for seconds! (and more). There aren't that many people out there - this is a beauty of the central Wisconsin, since most people are either in the South, or head further North for their recreation, bypassing mid-state.

It was a great short hike. My wife and I weren't nearly as prepared as we should have been but it was still great. It probably goes without saying but be wary of the rain and weather up to a week before hand. Some places on the Mamoth trail was wet and some was under water at the waters edge.

Interesting and interactive visitor/nature center, but the star feature here is the hiking trails. Glacial terminanal moraine area which means hills and lakes. Most of the woods are mature maple/pine. The trails are well laid out and provide a lot of options for how far you want to walk.

We were visiting the area with my family and we had a great time at the park. We had a picnic at the visitor center over looking the scenery. We stopped in the visitor center and the personnel on duty were nice, friendly, and helpful. The staff even let some of the animals out to let the kids hold them. The center also had a bunch of history about the area. We all were able to walk the 1.8 mile dry lake trail. There were a couple of bigger hills, but nothing too big.

I moved to the area about 10 years ago. This State Recreation Area is really "back to nature" - and will fit any age. The Interpretive Center is staffed and open 6 days a week (closed on Mondays) from 8:30 - 4. The displays feature the effects that the glacier has had on this area. There are activities for the kids - live animals native to the area to observe (snakes, turtles, fish, water bug etc.) Several mounts of animals native to the area. There are trails to hike - and views to take in. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the view! Big bonus - it is free and does not require a park sticker. Spend anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours here. Best time of the year - autumn! But, winter includes snowshoes that can be checked out.

Been there many many times since I moved to Bloomer. It has a ton of wonderful things to recommend it. I have brought friends and they bring friends once they try it. Great for kids and lovely for a afternoon hike or snowshoe! Hanging around in the center you can see all kinds of fun critters and they have a great bunch of other things to see and do as well.

Whether you choose to hike in warmer weather or snowshoe in the winter, there's always fun outside on the many trails with optional distances. Inside is a plethora of interactive displays, movies, and games for children and adults. Learn about glaciers, moraines etc. Pack a lunch and eat outside, watching wild birds and butterflies.

This is a great family destination. The displays inside are amazing and it is a fun learning experience for the kids. In the summer time the walking trails are awesome and not very busy. In the winter time you can even rent snow shoes and enjoy the trails.
