Both the grounds, gardens and Cole Hall guided tour was excellent! Our guide through the house, Kathy, was knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. My husband and I didn’t know what to expect, but we both thoroughly enjoyed our visit. I highly recommend!

An oasis offering lovely gardens, greenhouses filled with plants of all kinds and an amazing mansion (Coe Hall) this is a spot worthy of a visit. While the grounds are undergoing a major renovation things are a little confusing but the staff is helpful and they are adding signage with information.
We toured Coe Hall with Joseph as our guide. He was excellent, answering questions and providing context for what we saw.
Parking for seniors is free on non-holiday weekdays although they don't really advertise that. You will need a driver's license showing that you have reached the golden age!

We toured the green houses this time - our second visit. Previous visits we wandered the broad lawns and gardens. The green houses displayed fabulous colors and the main greenhouse wanders through varying climates. Bring a book and sit in one of the many nooks surrounded by happy plants.

The Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park is a beautiful state park and a highly renowned destination in Oyster Bay, New York.
In December of 2022, I brought and treated my wife and myself for a visit to the Planting Fields, and we very much enjoyed our experience.
Prior to becoming a state park, Planting Fields was a private estate owned by William Robertson Coe, a successful 20th Century insurance and railroad executive, and his wife Mary "Mai" Huttleston (née Rogers) Coe, the daughter of multi-millionaire industrialist and Standard Oil director, Henry H. Rogers.
During our visit to Planting Fields, my wife and I took part in a wonderful guided tour of the Coe Hall Historic House Museum, a gorgeous Tudor style mansion that was once the private residence of William Robertson Coe & his wife Mary Coe. Our tour guide did a superb job on explaining the history of the mansion, the Coe family, showcasing and discussing the mansion’s architectural features and multiple rooms.
Additionally, my wife and I also enjoyed viewing and taking pictures of the dazzling gardens, woodland paths and holiday decorations featured in Planting Fields!!!
When traveling to Long Island, New York, both my wife and I highly recommend that everyone stop by and explore Planting Fields Arboretum State Park, an absolute amazing attraction that is guaranteed to delight and enthrall all visitors!!!

Wonderful place to visit. We had a tour of the house scheduled on a rainy day so we were the only 2 people there. Eileen, Our Guide, was just great. She was knowledgeable and friendly. The home is just awesome. From room to room, it was just a treat to see how the Coe family lived. We learned a lot of history and so many interesting things. Because of the weather, we didn't see much of the grounds, but the greenhouse was beautiful.

Gorgeous old mansion with a lot of unique and interesting features, including leaded glass windows, stained glass, and Tudor features. The house is around 100 years old, but the family built it to make it appear much older. It’s not the most fantastic place I’ve ever seen, but has a really cool Buffalo room with original mural, and a bedroom that has a reproduction mural with an interesting story. The docents are nice and knowledgeable about the architecture.
There is a beautiful greenhouse too! And I went in the winter, so not much was blooming, but this place is reportedly lush and gorgeous in every season except winter.
The property is completely intact, as specified in the original owner’s will, and lots of space to explore.

No matter the season there is always something to see here. People are respectful of Covid restrictions and the size of the site offers lots of different opportunities to explore.

This place was amazing. Beautifully kept grounds, extremely clean, and amazing plants everywhere. The greenhouse near the front is a must see with unusual and unique plants not found in most places in the United States.

Beautiful park. Good variety of flora. BUT dont ignore the tick warning signs. I managed to pick up a tick just walking across the East Lawn.

What is their policy on pets? Are dogs allowed on the grounds? I have a small dog, under 10 pounds.

Sadly they do not allow even tiny dogs. Believe me I've tried. The only way you can get doggie in is at the end of the day and if you sneak her/him in. Otherwise its a no no. Maybe if its a service dog they'll let him/her in. Sorry

Hi - I'm looking at booking a week in Late April to May (2015). Are there any repairs going on in that timeframe? Also, do you recommend getting a rental car for that week to go to and from the beach, town, etc? I saw some reviews that its hard to get a cab in the area. For golfing, is this open to the public? Thanks, Susan

Hi Susan,
About repairs I have no idea. But if you contact them directly you may possibly get an answer.
About car rental: Yes, I recommend car rental versus taxi. LI has great distances and everything is away from each other so taxi might cost more.
About golfing I would also contact them directly.

I wish I had an answer to this, what I would like to recommend is calling the arboretum directly at:

If you drive Take 495 East to Rte 106/107 North. After State Rte, 25 106-106 divide, Bear right follow 106 to State Rte 25A. At 25 A make a right.
