Suficiente comida y buena calidad.Escrita el 5 de enero de 2015

I did this tour on July 30th with my father and it was a really great time !
At the beginning, we were a bit skeptical because we had been shown an industrial area which was supposedly the place where the movie set of Minas Tirith and Helm's Deep was built.
But don't be discouraged by that because I found the rest of the places much more recognizable and inspiring. My favorite being the Kaitoke Regional Park with its evergreen trees and its stunning elvish arch. The other places were also really great.
Our guide Kate was so cool too ! She was informative, friendly and very cheerful which made our tour even more pleasant ! (plus the props we were given to recreate some of the scenes were quite a nice surprise)
Furthermore, I recommend that you take the extra $28 visit in the Weta Cave. It's well worth the price and you're going to dive into the incredible magic of the cinema industry (more specifically the making of weapons, armours, miniatures, characters, "biggatures"...)
As a conclusion I would say that I strongly recommend this tour, especially if you're a Lord of the rings fan like me ! :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to write :)
Haha, the Helms Deep/Minas Tirith location does have some scratching their heads in disbelief. But when you learn what the film makers did with this place to create movie magic it becomes more amazing. Then the more scenic places we visit is a nice relief. I'll pass this on to Kate. She will be happy.
Cheers!

Wow! This tour was amazing for our grandson, Pierce. He is a huge Lord of the Rings, Hobbit film/book fan. We went on the tour on Saturday, June 8th and were joined by a cute couple from Sydney, Australia. We went to several locations were the movies were made. Our grandson and the other young man got to pose with costumes and props in the very location where the actors were. They had a wonderful time. Ted fed us lunch in a beautiful location, too. We couldn't have asked for a better day! Highly recommend you do this tour, even if you aren't a fan. The landscape is absolutely breathtaking at times. It ended at the Weta workshop. Overall, it could not have been a better experience.

Shocked at attitude of Oct. 2018 review - unrealistic expectations and complete lack of imagination lead to disappointment. The sites are 20 years old and never intended to be preserved as movie sets (know of anything that has not changed in appearance in 20 years?!. The transformation process is the intrigue, added by the insights shared by guides and in photos. As part of my business I have an NZ programs about NZ. I use the photos from this and other tours beside the scene from the movie-audiences love it!.Kaye was knowledgeable, pleasant and relaxed. It was a bonus to hear directly about the process of getting extras and how her own small stature and brown, curly hair was sought after. The Weta Workshop was a small disappointment as we had unrealistic expectations of seeing the artists at work, not thinking that they are now working on other projects which are secretly in development. However, ending with the creativity and humor of the aluminum foil sculpting showed what working at Weta is about.

I don't want to say this tour was bad because it wasn't, our guide was absolutely fantastic, very lovely and knowledgeable. However the tour is very very lacklustre and underwhelming given the cost.
The 'Aragorn Washed Ashore' location is just a riverbank.
The Minas Tirith and Helms Deep location is just a working quarry - completely unrecognizable from the films. It was cool to hear how the did it but definitely not something you would want to take a photo of or be amazed by.
The Mushrooms, Frodo Tree and Get out of the Road bits are only a few minutes walk from the city centre so really no need to pay to go there.
Rivendell was pretty cool and the fact our guide had props was good fun.
The workshop tour was really awesome but the fact you had to pay extra wasn't.
The tours interesting and insight is also bulked out majorly by playing movie clips/DVD extras in the van which aren't exclusive and if you own the DVD can watch yourself.
Overall the tour was enjoyable as I am a LOTR enthusiast but if you aren't I would not recommend it. In terms of price I would not say it is value for money given how you can easily access most of the locations yourself also crossed with the amount that are worthwhile. Our guide was fantastic though and the fact she had props made reenactments very fun. If the tour hadn't cost $120, maybe $80 or $100 at a push with access to the workshop your included it would be 5*.
Many thanks all the same for our day

Thanks for taking the time to write Joe.
We have had many come on our tour who understand the Hollywood studios removed all sets around New Zealand after Lord of the Rings filming had been completed. We would absolutely love to have sets to show on tour but that is unfortunately not our decision which is why we offer film-location tours. However, we make the experience more interesting and fun with our exclusive movie clips, documentaries, behind-the-scenes stories and props for pictures.
Yes, you could take yourself for a very long drive and walk to see the filming locations (if you could find them) but remember you would not have a guide and all those little extras included.
We are always trying to keep our costs far below what is standard in Wellington but it is becoming more and more difficult as our costs are currently rising enormously.
I hope this explains a little from our end,
Cheers and I hope you enjoy your pictures :)

I am a big LOTR fan so I was really looking forward to this tour and it did *not* disappoint. Our guide, Ted, was very knowledgeable and had behind the scenes info for us. We were able to take pictures reenacting scenes from the movies with props and watched behind the scenes videos before reaching several locations from the filming. The lunch was sandwiches with fresh ingredients and different drinks to choose from.
Be aware that it’s a law in NZ that if you film outside here you have to remove the entire set when you’re done (Hobbiton is a special case), so don’t be surprised by that when you get to each location - just use the pictures provided and your imagination.

We had an amazing day being guided by Ted and Tom who were both very nice and friendly. The lunch was sufficient and good and the guides were always asking for suggestions in order to continue improving. We saw many set places and although nothing (or almost) is left, it is quite impressive to imagine what was going on there. We learned a lot about cinematographic technics and about behind the scenes stories. We also got to make pictures with props and to watch videos in the van. Really a great day!

The Ultimate Movie Tour is perfect for any fan of the Lord of the Rings films! As a huge fan myself (of both the books and films), it was great fun being able to visit some of the film locations, re-enact certain shots, and absorb all the behind the scenes knowledge your guide has to offer. Wear comfortable shoes for being on your feet all day and of course prepare for the weather (it is very changeable in Wellington!)

We had a great time doing this tour and we consider this the best LotR tours we did in New Zealand! You get a lot of information about the making of the film accompanied with the actual spots where many of the big scenes from the movies where made. And dont fret if you are not a huge fan, the scenery itself makes the trip well worth your time and money!
Big thanks to our guide Ted for making this a great memory for me and my wife!

Very informative and adventurous. One of the guides Kate, was actually a Hobbit in the movie, which made it interesting. If you are more than just a "regular" Lord of the Rings fan you will appreciate all the behind the scenes information. Wear COMFORTABLE shoes, you are going on an adventure.
