We were en route from Salinas to Guayaquil and our driver asked if we'd be interested in this museum, which was right along the way. We were the only visitors and the museum staff walked us through the one room space that ranges from the Paleocene age (65 million years through 54 million years) forward. The artifacts in each era were very well preserved and varied in type. My favorites were the mastodon bones and the giant sloth skeleton. It is missing the neck and pelvis but otherwise complete. Huge! It was found in La Libertad about two miles from the museum, which I found amazing. It takes about 30 minutes to see the place but is well worth the stop.

I specially love to visit Museums and local art galleries. This one is rather a "good try" and a place to listen to many local stories; surmising: nice if you have extra time.

Megaterio Museum is located in Santa Elena in UPSE (Universidad Estatal Peninsula de Santa Elena) it’s a beautiful place and it’s considered like the Planetology collection center number one in Ecuador since 2008. A tourist guide gives an introduction about the history of the Museum, the legend of Giants of Sumpa, fossils of Megafauna founds in various sites of Santa Elena’s provinces, a replica of a Mamut and other animals. It’s a good place to visit in family in especially with children because it helps them to learn more about the Province of Santa Elena. I visited this museum with my aunt and my little brother, afterward he told her mother and his father about it place and show some photos with the replica of mamut, The mamut looks like so real, I like it place.
