This is a great trail for walking, running or biking. There are interesting things to see all along it. We only had a few hours and biked from St. Peter's Bay to Mt. Stewart - great ride along the water with places to stop to rest or take pictures. Definitely would recommend this trail.

The trail between Murray Harbour and Cape Bear Rd. is littered with tree twigs which could puncture a bicycle tire. There are numerous deep ruts made by 4wheelers while the trail was still soft and numerous deep potholes which make cycling dangerous. Also there's a tree across the trail just East of the Toronto Rd. crossing which is very difficult to get by.

We rented bikes in St Peter's to ride to Morrell and farther. The bridge on the trail is out at about 8 km out of town. There is a detour of 6.4 km, of which about 5lm of the detour is on the highway, which has small shoulders, lots of traffic driving by fast. It takes you away from the shore, so much of the ride is just on highway. It would have been nice had they had a warning and map of the detour in St Peter or along the trail.

When visiting PEI, Biking the Confederation Trail is a Must do! Stunning scenery and coolest Trail stations converted into Trail side shops selling Food and ice cream along with Public Clean Washrooms is great! This we saw in Kensington PEI about 10kms out of Summerside on the trail. We used Clarks Motel in Summerside as our base and launched across the street on the Confederation trail and spent the whole day just site seeing what train passengers used to see many years ago. We knocked off 65kms in about 6 hrs. ending up in Bordon PEI at Ceretti’s grocery and Irving station, where we dropped off our Truck the night before, as it was only a 18 min drive to do so from Clarks Motel in Summerside PEI. It was awesome and we are already planning another trip in Aug this year!

My adult daughter and I rode the CT in July 2019, beginning in Tignish and ending in Elmira. We took three days to ride. If you ride end-to-end you should take at least four or five days. The ride between Tignish and Summerside is the easiest. The closer to Elmira the more hills you will encounter. A two-percent grade may not seem like much, but when you consider those grade go for several kilometers, it becomes a bit tough. It was a beautiful ride. There were several places to stop and rest along the way. Take a camera. Some of the more scenic territory is on the eastern part of the island. There were not many people on the trail while we were on it, but those we met were friendly and helpful. It was definitely worth the drive from Texas, USA, to PEI. What a great trail!

Very nice trail, due to short time, we cycled from St.Peters to Morrel and back. The trail goes along the north coast and beautiful views. I plan to go back and cycle the entire trail.

I usually took my mountain bike while on the Confederation Trail, a lot of people walk or run and a lot like me drive their bicycle, there are no motor vehicles allowed on the trail. The trail is beautiful and spreads right across the island, there are rest spots with picnic tables and roof coverings in a lot of places and garbage bins so they try hard to keep it clean. The scenery in so many areas is extremely beautiful and whether your walking or biking I highly recommend the trail. Don't forget your water and bug repellent for some swampy areas.

We rented electric assisted bikes from North Rustico and took the trail from there to Cavendish and back. There were plenty of areas to stop and walk down to the beach along the way. Not a lot of people on the trail so easy peddling especially wth our peddle assist feature. I would bring a small pack to keep some water and a better camera.

My adult daughter and I discovered this trail three years ago when she, my wife, and I came to PEI. We talked about it for two years and then finally started planning on our trip from Texas to ride the Confederation Trail. We rode it in three days, 70 miles the first day, 52 the second, and 48 the last. The grades are indeed no greater than two-percent, but when you are talking about 7-8 kilometer hills, it can wipe out a 70+ year-old man like me. The scenery is pleasant and changing from one end to the other. Plenty of benches and covered picnic tables between Tignish and Summerside. They are a little more sparse from Summerside to Elmira, but adequate. Take insect repellant and sunscreen and plenty of water. Trail is in pretty good shape. Great Ride.

We are planning to use DJ Transportation Service to transport us and our bikes from the beginning and end of Confederation Trail. Any reviews of this company? Thanks!

Does anyone know of places to park a car (for about 1 week) somewhat near the trail (any portion)? Please include price estimates if you know them. Thank you!
Escrita el 31 de mayo de 2018
To answer your question about parking a car. There is a rather large parking lot on Wood Islands at the Visitor Center which is located on the trail. They don't charge and there is always activity coming and going to the visitor center and the store. I would ask there. PEI is a huge island with lots and lots of open space, I am pretty sure you can find some place to park. I would suggest you stay away from Charlottetown due to limited and pricey parking. You could also contact a biking group on the island (perhaps through a google search) and see if they have any other ideas. Just to let you know, much of the trail is geared toward mountain bikes. Hybrid tires if the weather is dry work on the railroad beds but slow going on the side trails leading into the railroad bed.

Appreciate info on the Confederation Trail.
You mention the Trail Booklet--how do I obtain one in advance of arriving on the Island?
Thank you!

Where is a restaurant serving oysters near the bike trail PEI
Escrita el 15 de julio de 2017
Great question. Answer is that oysters and blue mussels are harvested across PEI. While we personally focused on lobster and mussels (as well as seafood chowder) at any restaurant we went during our bike trip, oysters are on the menu across PEI including the Blue Mussel Café (North Rustico) and the Water Prince (Charlottetown). I am sorry that this site does not allow me to add the links. PEI and seafood are a perfect combo.

Are there any sections of the trail that allow horses and riders?
Escrita el 25 de marzo de 2017
Hi there - yes saw some horses being ridden in the Trail from time to time. Best to talk to PEI Tourism to see if this is actually ok and where exactly.

We (my husband & I) are planning to bike the trail tip to tip Sep 2016, bring our own bikes & travelling in a camper van. Is there a secure place to leave the van while we are biking? Hope to do the trail in 5 to 7 days, but wondering how to get back to Tignish from the other end. Also in the guide there is a portion of the trail that is marked Medium to Hard, what is meant by hard? Is it just because of the distance on that particular portion or is there something else that makes it difficult? We are seniors and relatively fit but definitely not athletes! What kind of cost are we looking at for the B&B's along the way? Are there places to buy snacks & water, etc. and toilets along the trail? What kind of clothing is advisable for that time of year? Thank you in advance for your response.

Does anyone know in PEI near Charlottetown what are the easiest and flattest parts of the trail?
We want to bring our bikes and what is the most scenic?
We will probably want to ride about 20 miles for two days.
Does anyone know of any cabins to stay along the way or other places of scenery?
We want to make the most out of it.
We will probably bring our own bikes since we are from New Jersey and drive.

Just wondering did you camp along the way or stay in b&b or do day trips? We want to do day trips as we travel with our pooch so looking for a cabin centrally located. Any suggestions? We are planning this trip for next fall ? Tks

My daughter (35) and myself (65) are planning to ride the complete trail in September, we do a lot of trail riding but some of the older reviews talked of "quick sand" conditions and "lose gravel". We want to be prepared. Is this still a problem in certain areas?
Escrita el 25 de julio de 2015
We encountered a several mile stretch this spring where a small grader was doing trail maintenance and the loose surface was unrideable. But this was a temporary condition we found no other spots that were difficult to travel.
