The location is for the administration office, not the park itself, which starts on Moresby/Lyell Islands well to the South. The office is next to the Haida Cultural Center which is a STELLAR museum, and there is a Carving Shed right behind it with poles and canoes.

The park itself is fantastic, and most of it is pristine wilderness, and represents a major environmental and cultural victory, gained over 20 years ago. It's a world-class cultural and nature experience that you'll need an outfitter to help you access via boat, helicopter or floatplane.

The natural beauty should have been enough, but the history of the people who lived here before was fascinating. The food was great and we were well taken care of in a very safe environment. Being outdoors on a boat in this natural paradise was thrilling.

This place is not easy to get to but if you do you will be rewarded by a beautiful location filled with many ghosts of the past.

The Watchmen of the Haida people take great pride in the history and art of their First Nation, and serve to remind us of the wrongs done to their people. Please support their efforts to repatriate their artefacts from museums around the world.

One of the wonders of the world. It’s almost overwhelming in its beauty. We were very fortunate in the weather but even on a rainy day/days, it’s well worth the adventure in getting there. The Watchmen do a fantastic job in keeping the numbers down and the area pristine along with their abundance of knowledge. It’s all very humbling.

Trip of a lifetime with Atlas and Captain Darrell. We brought our 3 teens for a 7-night southbound voyage. Everything about it was special.

Before the trip, the company was communicative and responsive about packing and logistics, which was helpful, not having been to the area or on this kind of tour before. The trip itself included elements that just by themselves would have been well worth it; but they were combined into one magical experience. The wildlife was extraordinary: whales, bears, seals, sea lions, lots of eagles and seabirds, and equally interesting, a variety of creatures that we saw under water during our low-tide kayak paddles, including interesting jellyfish and brightly-colored starfish. Though this isn't a "fishing trip," we caught from the boat prawns, crabs, salmon, rockfish, ling cod, and halibut. All delicious! And all of this while visiting Haida village sites, with their unique history and knowledgeable watchmen. The kayak paddles were fun and relaxing for all of us. Saw a big bear eating crabs on the beach during one of them at the Burnaby Narrows. This all happened while living on a beautiful boat for a week, with unbelievably good meals created by Darrell, and plenty of time to relax (completely offline).

Few pieces of advice to other travelers: if there are specific activities that you are interested in more than others, let Atlas and the captain know, We enjoy seabirds, and Darrell spent time taking us to areas where they abound. Also, be prepared to pitch in and help with some food preparation and clean-up after meals. Finally, obviously bring quick-dry/rain gear. We got lucky with the weather in that it only rained one day - but part of the reason that Haida Gwaii is so lush and beautiful is that it does rain a fair bit.

We would highly recommend a visit to this enchanting part of the world, and Atlas in particular.

Put Haida Gwaii’s Gwaii Haanas Park and Ecological Reserve on your bucket list. At the risk of sending too many tourists there, this is an unforgettable experience. The only way to see most of the south part of this Archipelago is from water, so find a tour company and go with them if you don’t own a boat. We went on a 6-night trip with Archipelago Ventures. The boat, Island Bay was comfortable for 4-5 depending on how many beds are needed and the guest configuration. Depending on weather, a kayak is one of the best ways to see the marine life. Our skipper knew when we should launch, given the tides, and the sea is so rich with aquatic life, the species fill several books, all of which are on the ship library shelves. This is not for the budget traveller. Food, gas and lodging are all high priced and it’s not easy to find accommodations. Despite the challenges, it is so wonderful to be out where nobody else can be seen, to experience Haida culture from the Watchmen, who escort you around the special significant sites, and to see a part of the world that is a pristine environment. It’s not untouched, there was logging until the 80’s on the north Island, but the south islands, now an eco-reserve is old growth forest and undeveloped. A trip of a lifetime.

A magical place in a very remote location. Landing via float plane and then taking a zodiac across the bay, you are immediately captured by the beauty and serenity of this historical island. We had a fantastic guide James who was himself a watchman here for 15 seasons. Fantastic view into the soul of the Haida. Do not feel this is a National Park. In fact, I feel that it is disrespectful to consider it a park.
