As a home weaver and spinner of woolen yarns, I was especially excited to find this authentic working mill on our visit to Ireland. Trevor did an excellent job showing us around, and my husband and I really enjoyed our time there. We picked out a beautiful woolen throw to enjoy and remind us of our visit in Ireland. Irish grown wool and made, the Cushendale Mill is a gem in Ireland.

Mind boggling to think this building is over 800 years old and so wonderfully preserved.
It is a credit to the people of Graiguenamanagh who obviously take such pride in it. It's also a credit to the people who built this in the 13th century.
A national treasure

This a fairly simple abbey without the glitter of the many cathedrals that we toured. Restoration work is ongoing. It shows how many of the ruined churches that dot the countryside probably originally looked.

Having attempted to visit on a previous 2 occasions and being disappointed not to get in due to the Abbey being closed, we were thrilled to find the Abbey open on this occasion. We weren't disappointed. It is a beautiful church. The medieval floor tiles being a highlight.

This 800 year plus old restored Abbey was totally amazing to see. On the outside it is an impressive stone structure with adjoining cemetery that you cannot not miss as you drive into Graiguenamanagh. As you enter the inside even more spectacular is the high wooden ceiling, the beautiful stained glass windows, and the impressive pipe organ. We were so glad we explored off the beaten path and discovered this historical landmark.

From an architectural point of view, this building is spectacular. The interior has been finished to a high standard both of materials and authenticity, and there is a good deal of information provided for the general visitor. An architectural model shows the original extent of the monastic settlement. The monks diverted the river Duiske flowing through the town to provide a constant water supply both for the abbey and for the mill. Indeed the river, whose Irish name means "black water", gave its name to the Abbey. You can see some of the ruins of the original abbey in the recently extended carpark behind the Supervalu grocery shop and post office, but by going down the stairs inside the Abbey you encounter a sculpture of a recumbent knight (presumably a Norman, as the abbey was first established during the period of Norman conquest of Ireland). It is said that the fact that his legs are crossed indicates that he went on a Crusade to the Holy Land; just one of the strange facts you can learn about the history of the Abbey and of Graiguenamanagh itself.

Absolutely beautiful place to visit. The effigy is worth a visit as well. The stained glass windows were completely stunning in particular.

A beautiful Abbey, the highlight for me was the fantastically built, very high wooden ceiling, superb craftsmanship. The magnificent stained glass windows, white washed walls and simple adornments make for a peaceful atmosphere. Well worth visiting.

The cathedral, both exterior and interior, is beautiful with a very interesting history. The adjoining cemetery has at least two high cross headstones. I would agree with previously posted reviews that it's a place to slow down and enjoy.
