We were touring in the area and looking for a walk and "Google" took us here. We were directed to what was probably an unofficial way in through someone's garden which seemed to be a right of way! (Lovely garden!) we walked along the edge of a barley field and then into a wood walk. When the wood ended we were in a field with this monument! It was a total surprise for us! There was a board explaining the mound with the concrete passageway through it. Being a fan of monuments aligned with the Equinox or the Solstice it was a great and pleasant surprise to literally stumble on this site! Amazing! We continued along the track with the various boards explaining the stones and place names connected to the Oulart Hill 1798 Battlefield until we got to the main carpark! Being surrounded by views and agricultural land added to the lovely walk. The various sites in and around Oulart should be advertised more! Whoever developed it put lots of effort into it - well done.

We parked in the car park of the Oulart HIll 1798 Battlefield hub and took the path to Tulach a' tSolais, the monument to 1798" in it's particular context of the European Enlightenment" (T.K. Whittaker). It was a soft day for October and we approached the monument through a stand of deciduous trees. We entered the monument and took in the atmosphere. A pensive, mysterious space with plenty of room for reflection on what the 1798 rising meant to those who participated and their descendants. There are three separate walks from the hub car park in beautiful surroundings. We didn't have time to fully explore the area but hope to return to do so in the near future. A wonderful experience.
