After searching a bit for the old Wexford Gaol discovered the last remaining building that is now part of the Republican Remembrance Garden. It is now a tranquil spot that marks a history of repression and the ultimate sacrifice given to obtain freedom for the Irish people. Nicely done and well worth a momentary pause on my visit to County Wexford.

To the back of the old Gaol in Wexford, to the rear of the current county buildings, there is a lovely Republican Remembrance garden where there rebels were executed. You can still see the bullet holes in the prison wall where James Parle, John Creane and Patrick Hogan were shot for insurrection by the British in March 1923.
There is across and plaque to these men and all the others who gave their lives in the struggle for Irish independance. Many trees have been planted in remembrance too and there are plenty of benches for you to sit on and contemplate.
As far as I know it is open from March to September and there is no charge. It is well worth taking in the gaol too although it is not open for visitors and has been completely neglected, the exterior is still as striking as ever though.
The garden is very well tended though and well worth the 10 minute or so walk from Main Street. Don't be confused though, the entrance is not the main one to county hall, it is around the corner by another minute or so.
