Before the start of the transport strike on 5 Dec we took the opportunity to visit the twice weekly fresh market in the 18th arrondissement, just off the metro station at Barbes. This market is also known as the Arab market due to the demographic of the neighbourhood. Wow! the produce! The prices! Incredible. Weighed down with multiples of everything (2 pineapples for €2!) we jumped back on the metro within the 2 hour window - so a free ride home.

Tucked under the elevated metro, this open air market is fairly extensive in its fruit and vegetable offerings with good prices. Some meats, fish and other goods are on offer as well. Be aware that it can get crowded. We went late morning and it was very crowded; we could only move forward with the line on one side at a time.

Ouvert tous les Samedis et les Mercredis. Des fruits et des légumes frais à bas prix. Faites juste attention à vos sacs 😉

A must-visit market for those living in Paris! Loads of fresh produce - you will be spoilt for choice - and so much that is around 1€ per kilogram! Enormously cheap compared to local supermarkets. They also have fresh meat and seafood which is also offered at literally unbeatable prices.
Keep your wits about you as it gets busy due to the competitive prices and only carry the minimum stuff with you as it’s a hotspot for pickpockets when it’s busy. Avoid the crowd by going when it’s just opening (different websites say different things but I arrived around 7.30am and I wasn’t the first there).

Sitting beneath the elevated line 2 metro, the twice-weekly market — Wednesday and Saturday — with its "Arab flavour", is an excellent place to shop for vegetables and fish. Has an "unbelievable" ambience — with the crowds and the jostling and shouting, and as a tourist it's worth a visit just for this.

A must visit place if you are looking for fresh fruits and vegetables. This place is open only on Wednesday (and sat?) and that too in the morning, and you need to go there before 10 if you do not want the crowds. Place is crowded, however you get produce fresher than supermarkets at half to fifth the price. Cherries were 5.99 EUR in super market, and one guy was selling them at 1EUR per kg here. Brought lots of veggies, fruits, eggs etc and the total damage was 30 eur. We had to stop shopping since our hands were full. Service is much more friendlier than shops. There are also cloths etc on the other end. This is just like the street markets I have been to in many places of asia, and you can hear many languages including hindi spoken here.
