We visited a number of historically important monuments and graves of American military in the area. This one was erected in 1994 in memory of the eleven black GIs of the 333rd Field Artillery Battalion. There were murdered in this location by the German SS after surrendering on the second day of the Battle of the Bulge. The new memorial is from 2004.
The monument is made of stone and has 11 names on it.
Consider also visiting in St Vith the memorial of Second Infantry division near the cemetery. It is 13 km away.

It is a small monument on a Belgian hamlet of Wereth. The monument is dedicated to the eleven African-American soldiers who were brutally murdered in that area. The massacre took place on December 17, 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge. This murder is not well known to the public. Those soldier was member of the 333th Field Artillery Battalion.

Klein und abgelegen liegt dieses Memorial ziemlich ab vom Schuß und erzählt eine der weniger bekannten Geschichten des Battle at the Bulge. Ein guter Ort zum inne halten.

Very somber memorial of a little known event that occurred at the beginning of the Battle of Bulge. Not really a whole lot to see here but just happened to be a stop on our tour. Sadly there are many memorials to the Bulge related casualties that occurred throughout area that was a key location in December 1944. Not really not much to see unless you just happen to be in the area. A lot of people come to this memorial, as there is a movie about the Wereth 11.

and it will send a shiver down your spine.
Desolate and remote, you can image the POW being force up the path to their execution site.
A fitting memorial that is that is poignant and classy.

This is a must see memorial for those visiting the northern Battle of the Bulge area. It is a memorial started by local citizens for eleven African American soldiers of the 333rd Field Artillery Battalion who became separated from their unit during the chaos of the German attack. Initially sheltered by a local citizen, they were given up to the SS, probably by a different local sympathetic to the Germans. These men were then tortured and murdered by the SS and their bodies were not found until after the tide of battle had shifted. Much credit should be given to the locals who started this memorial and made the story more well known to the rest of the world. The memorial is off of the road, but there is a sign directing visitors to it. The memorial itself is beautiful and lists the names of the eleven men, and is also dedicated to all African-American soldiers of World War II. A separate plaque commemorates the Langer family, who initially sheltered the men. A very nice display sign describes the whole incident. This is a must see and an under publicized Bulge site.
