Pannier market traders are so far up their own a...,and just looking to rip off emmetts !
Everything very overpriced and clearly aimed at rich tourists. Most traders can't even be bothered to make eye contact and stand huddled around on each others stalls talking. If you show interest in something you can see them rubbing their hands ! if they were more friendly and stuff was reasonably priced it would be a much better atmosphere, shame as some interesting unique stuff. The main street has lost its heart and souland some good shops have gone, the Original Pasty House still very good, but so so busy, had to queue to get a table !

We were in Tavistock for a few hours and took advantage to visit the Pannier Market. Great array of different items - some specialist - that you do not find elsewhere. Plenty of options and ideal if you are looking for that Unique Gift. Toilets available and a Cafe within the Market serving Hot & Cold Food as well as Drinks. Ideal to spend a while wandering around and being undercover the weather won’t spoil your visit.

We visited the market (one of the oldest in the UK) while visiting family and checking out the town. The buildings are amazing and it has you imagining how this at one time must have been a garrison or something along those lines. The market has ample sellers of local goods and crafts and spreads out to the street beyond the gates.

Had an excursion to Tavistock Pannier Market included in our weekend package. It was over an hours journey from Torquay. The market was ok, with a lot of choice, although some stalls were quite expensive. Had a walk around the shops. It was nice to visit, but I wouldn't go there again.

I took the 171 bus from Newton Abbot once a day for 90 minutes, diagonally across Dartmore to visit. The towns I visited without prior knowledge were cozy and cute. There is an information center and a museum, and after a brief lecture, we visited a market located behind the information center. The market, apparently converted from an old factory, was lined with local handmade shops.

The pannier market is always worth a walk through, some of the stalls change daily and some are permanent. Good for gifts, collectibles, jewellery, home items and art, food and drink items, there’s a pet stall we use regularly. Barclays Bank have a pop up here. The market is open Tuesday to Saturday. Around the market there are other interesting shops and cafes and then there’s the high street and there’s often stalls in front of the guildhall.
Tavistock is an historic, attractive Stannary market town about an hour from Exeter and a half hour drive from Plymouth.
Or take a bus from Plymouth for about an hour.
It’s on the edge of Dartmoor.
It has a number of chain and independent shops, eateries, a Wetherspoons, a gastro pub, independent record shop, florists, gift shops, a deli, butcher shops, book shops, a wine shop, travel agents, one TSB branch, a patisserie, grocery shops, bakery, pet shops, art and stationery, interior design, a leisure centre, haberdashery, jewellery, salons, small museum, Co-ops, a Lidl, Tesco and Morrisons and it’s good for clothes for all ages we find as the mix of chain and independents gives more choice.
The River Tavy is lovely, there’s a small park to walk around which is sandwiched between the Tavistock canal and the river. You can see the ducks, 🦆, squirrels etc and there’s a play park.

We ducked in here to avoid the rain and we’re pleased that we had done so since the v@riety of stalls was amazing and there were many things that we wanted to buy.
If we return to Tavistock we will have another look around this eclectic market.

It is a rare thing the see days to have a thriving town with a decent market. Most places are what I would call ‘tat markets’ but the Pannier Market in Tavistock is a great place to visit. The highlight for me was the food place ‘Bobs’ absolutely cracking fry up. Also, the shops around the market are brilliant… the cheese shop is awesome.

When is the food market held here?
Escrita el 27 de septiembre de 2016
There isn't actually a food market day. There are number of concessions inside the main hall and a cafe plus a number of shops outside in the main on the eastern side. these include a cheese shop, a Mediterranean shop , a health food shop and several others
