I live near Yarric Rd… DO NOT USE YARRIC RD to access Whoota lookout! There is a locked gate across the road. Please heed the sign that says No Through Road. It’s there for a reason. I get calls all the time to rescue people from this road. It is narrow, unsafe for a 2 wd car. Better access via Thomas& Sugar Creek roads. I have asked google maps to alter this road, as many gps apps send people along this road.

Thanks to the reviewers who cautioned against going up Yarric road (from Coombs road) as we were first advised by Google maps! It would be helpful to have a cautionary sign. We made it up easily via Sugar Creek road and the views were well worth it.

It's not well signposted and we took a wrong turn or two but we finally found our way to the look out. The road is gravel and quite rough in parts. If you don't have 4 wheel/all wheel drive don't attempt it when the road is wet. There is a picnic table but no shelter at the look out. Views are spectacular.

Beautiful view to the north, east and south. The road was rough in spots, but fine in a 4WD. There is a picnic table amd a bench at the top.

A little known spot about an hour from Forster. Stunning views. Gravel road accessible by most vehicles but AWD SUV or 4x4 recomended. Road can be rough following heavy rain

Hello,
I live on Yarric Road.
Whoota Whoota lookout is really amazing but NOT accessible from Yarric Road either by 2WD or 4WD as there is a National Parks LOCKED GATE at the top.
DO NOT put your trust in Google Maps.
It is a dangerous road as there is nowhere to turn around once you begin to climb. There are also deep causeways will will bottom out all but the highest wheel base cars.
During holiday season I regularly meet people who have been misled by Google and get stuck up there with the occasional tourist driving off the thin road while trying to turn around- wrecking their hire car and lucky to be uninjured.
Access to the lookout is by Thomas Rd (better if 4WD) or Sugar Creek Rd (2WD)
Be warned... I'm tired of rescuing people.

ON a clear day you can see the lake, ocean and forests. Long windy road through the forest takes you to the highest point where you have a virtual 360 view. Accessible by 2 wheel drive vehicle. No toilets, but a picnic table is available.

Fabulous view and pleasant forest drive.Use Sugar Creek Road, NOT Thomas Road (unless you have a 4WD). Google Navigation (and Sygic) will try and kill you.

Even with a 4wd we chickened out after starting up two dirt trails our GPS led us too. Big ruts that bottomed out the car and a bit of sideways sliding. One way only so if we had met anyone also on the track there would have been a lot of backing up by someone. We ended up doing 98 point turns on both and going somewhere else.

In Tuncurry for 2 nights and after convincing my husband that we should take our new 4x4 off road again, set off in great anticipation.
Travelled along Coomba Road and advised to turn left. We hit dirt immediately, which was fine, however it deteriorated each metre we travelled.
After 2+kms we came across a locked gate and managed to turn around to return whence we came.
Very concerned that other travellers may experience this and if in a standard vehicle would be probably placing themselves at risk.
Signage needs improving
