Lithuania has many beautiful and gothic churches ...almost every corner. On my way to utena to visit the Stelmuze Oak, I had to stop and admire this church. Beautiful white church( most of the churches I saw were red). This church is located in Zarasai , hours drive from Vilnius. Its worst a look or visit inside if you are in the area.

Pretty outside. With a peaceful garden. Inside is full of art and a space for a moment of peace. Worth the visit.

This Neo-Baroque style Church was built on the highest point in Zarasai in 1878, and stands towering over the Main Street into the town. We stopped in for a visit yesterday 7/8. After all the amazing churches in Vilnius and Kaunas, this one is humble, but has its own charm.
There are three altars, and much Lithuanian art woodcarving in both the main altar and the lectern. This, alone, is worth a stop. Above the main altar, a semi circular widow has been cut, and a copy of the historical picture of the Madonna with Child has been placed there. An inscription tells us that this picture was brought here from Vilnius after its miraculous rescue from a huge fire.
The grounds inside the surrounding walls are adorned with crosses, and also contain the graves of several priests.

В Зарасае есть центральная площадь, которая носит нетиповое название Селю. Основной интерес на площади представляет римско-католический костёл Успения Пресвятой Девы Марии, построенный в конце 19-го века. Очень красивое и изящное белое сооружение с черными куполами. Пожалуй, это главная архитектурная достопримечательность утопающего в зелени и окруженного озёрами городка )))
Ворота на территорию костёла выполнены из валунов и красного кирпича, в Литве такое сочетание чаще всего встречается в архитектуре церковных или кладбищенских ворот.
Во дворе костёла и на стене церкви - разнообразные резные литовские деревянные кресты. Такие кресты - визитная карточка Литвы, я много подобных встречала в Литве.
Рассказывают, что икона Святой Девы Марии, находящаяся на Большом Алтаре костёла, подаренная Великим литовским князем Витаутасом, является чудотворной.
Костёл окружен вековыми деревьями и во всей красе "в полный рост" его можно сфотографировать лишь в безслиственное время года.
