I highly recommend doing this small hike. It is quite fascinating to see these Petroglyphs (carved in stone) and be able to learn more about HI culture. It makes you wonder what they were trying to convey.
The place just gives you that aura of a sacred ground.

Great way to see some petroglyphs! Nice little hike through the kiawe forest. The hike was about a mile long, my husband, my son and myself enjoyed it. It was really a nice way to connect with the land and the family. The hike was a fantastic way to get in tuned with the culture and nature! Make sure to check out the Holoholokai beach walk after the hike- nice refresher!!

An interesting moderate relatively flat hike to see some Hawaiian history. Public restrooms near the trailhead and a nice view of the ocean as well.

Although the petroglyphs are certainly mysteriously interesting, I thought that the walk through the forest of trees born in lava was equally worth seeing. We practically had this place to ourselves, not very crowded.

Nice place to see petroglyphs. Modest walk on uneven ground and it is often hot. Many very interesting petroglyphs. Wear good walking shoes.

We visited this area and had a nice little time. The petroglyphs are really cool to see first hand . The hike is easy and mostly level. It’s only shaded for part of it, lather on the sunscreen, wear a hat, and take water. It’s very dusty, so no nice shoes.

Definitely worth the hike, even if your interest in archaeology is marginal. As others have said, do not attempt the trail with flip-flops (or "slippers," as they are known in Hawaii). The trail is not steep, essentially flat its entire length, but you must navigate tree roots, rocks, and thorns. The thick, tangled forest is straight out of Tolkien, an experience in itself. The petroglyphs themselves are mysterious and fascinating. If you're lucky enough to have the area to yourself late in the day, you can feel the power and mystery of the site that must have led the ancient Hawaiians to revere the area. If you get a clear day, take the hike a couple of hours before sunset and linger awhile. The angled sun highlights the carvings, and watching the golden light creep across them as the sun sets is a visual delight. Take your time as you hike in, since as you near the petroglyphs the trail is sometimes difficult to discern. All in all, an easy and interesting trip.

Great cultural experience. It requires a bit of walking so wear good shoes (sandals and flip flops not recommended). The beginning of the trail has several glyphs to familiarize yourself with what you’ll see. It’ll be slightly harder to see the actual glyphs as you can’t get up close and must remain behind a wooden fence.

I loved it but the kids were bored. It was a short hike on a hot day and the petroglyphs were so cool to think they were made so long ago! Cool little stop.

This is a great (relatively short) hike for seeing petroglyphs, but make sure you have on good shoes (sneakers or sturdier are recommended) and are relatively sure-footed. There is almost no elevation change, but lots of rocks, roots, and other uneven ground can be hard on your ankles. Also watch your head as you navigate under the tree. The trail is clear, but doesn't have any markings or blazes along the way. Be sure to read other reviews for additional information (for example, trailhead is at the entrance to the parking lot, away from the beach). It can get quite hot in the afternoon (which is when we went, unfortunately) and you might want to consider using insect repellent.

I'm curious to know if it is easy to get to the Petroglyph trail from the Fairmont Orchid resort. Is it walk-able, or is there public transportation?

It is walkable but a hot and not that scenic walk on the road.
You can make a shorter and scenic 15 minute walk along the shoreline north and get to Holoholokai Beach Park. The petroglyph trail is off the parking lot on the left, past the restrooms.
You can have the Fairmont shuttle take you and they probably will come get you if you call.
