Sivasagar -The Ancient Capital city of Assam.
oct. de 2018 • Solitario
Joydol -The beautiful temple standing alone in the lush green background is known as Joydol on the bank of Joysagar, a manmade lake built in the 1700s. Joydol was built during the reign of Ahom king Rudra Singha (AD 1696-14) and dedicated to Hindu God Lord Vishnu. It somehow reminded me of the Shore Temple of Mahabalipuram near Chennai. Although, the Mahabalipuram temple is much much older and a architectural marvel. The beautiful ambience and peace the peace that serrounds both the temples are similar. The Joy Sagar lake, covering 350 acres of land was built in 1699 by Rudra Singha, the Ahom King in the memory of his mother Joymoti. The placid lake with blooming lotus, the mild winter Sun, the cacaphony of the migratory birds created magic. I stood on the bank and looked at the setting Sun and tried to imagine life a few centuries ago. A strange desire seem to grow slowly, a strange longing and a strong urge to visit ancient places related to your origin....standing on Jerenga Pathar, the field where Joymoti , wife of Gadadhar Singha, the exiled Ahom King, was tortured for 14 days and finally killed (1680), was a humbling feeling. The amazing Talatal Ghar and the underground maze (bhul bhulayia). The legend say there exist an underground tunnels that opens near the Dikhow river, an escape route in case of a war. The tree lined metaled road finally lead to the Ahom Capital of Joy Sagar. The sprawling structure multistoried (with several floors underground) is breath takingly amazing. The greenery extended into the horizon, the brick and mortar structures still stood strong built by Rudra Singha, son of Gadadhar Singha. Standing on this vast expanse of this beautiful land, one wished if the bricks and the stones could tell a story.Rang Ghar, the royal sports Pavilion of Ahom King was built in 1744-1750 by King Pramatta Singh. The magnificent double storied monument looks majestic, the open vistas spreads into the horizon. All kind of sports including Buffalo/Bull fight took place on the foreground. The rising moon in the evening sky looked perfect for a beautiful portrait of this magnificent royal stadium. The history one had grown up with, the stories of valour and glory of one,s forefathers are all relived here in this beautiful land.

Sibsagar town gets its name from this tank
mar. de 2017 • Amigos
Shivsagar tank is an artificial fresh water tank constructed in 18th Century by Queen Ambika who was the wife of Ahom ruler. This is a very large tank located close to Shiva Dol temple. We went to see the tank after completing darshan in Shivadol temple. The tank has lot of fishes. Maintenance can be improved. We took a stroll around the tank.

Sivasagar, in Assam or the ‘Ocean of Lord Shiva’ is a beautiful place with stunning monuments and epics that describe the Assamese culture and history at the best.
It is well known for its Ahom palaces and monuments. Sivasagar today is also an important centre for the tea and oil industries.
The Jhumur dance and song is one of the prime cultural activities of this district.
The tea gardens not only produce economy but also add to the scenic beauty giving a boost to the tourism industry.

Shivsagar tank is a man made tank built by Queen Ambika of Ahom Dynasty in 18th century. This tank is located besides the Shivadol temple, which was also constructed by her. The majestic tank is a marvelous piece of Ahom architecture. We visited the tank after completing the darshan at Shivdol temple. The tank is a nice place to enjoy cool breeze. We spent quality time in the peaceful and calm environment around the tank.

Peaceful, naturally beautiful but lacks maintenance
ene. de 2016 • Pareja
It is a large manmade tank built by Queen Ambika, wife of King Shiva Singha, in 18th century and named after the king. The tank is spread over a large area. The water level of the tank never changes and remains above the level of the town all the time. It is a testimony of technological advancement achieved during the rule of Ahom kings in Assam. On one bank of the tank are the three important temples of hinduism - Shiv dole, Bishnu dole and Devi dole. Besides many offices of district administration are situated on its bank. The lake, also known as 'Borpukhuri' is one of the important habitats of the migratory birds during the winter season. The huge tank and its green surroundings offers a space for walk and also good place to spend some peaceful time. However, the lake and its surrounding area is in dire need of maintenance. With little effort it can be a great tourist attraction
