Note - Maps will list the name the spelling of this place as Tzippori. It is a fascinating archaeological site and definitely worth the detour from here to there when visiting the area. There are many layers of history here and admittedly, I am no scholar of all the history, so suffice it to say, there are remains from roman times, the crusaders and more. They have it marked out on a little map with a suggested walking path that takes you through all the main things to see. The walk is generally paved but there are stone steps and hills. My favorite site here was the Dionysus House (had to look this up to write accurately here), with a mosaic floor built in the 3rd century. It has panels showing the life of Dionysus, the God of Wine. You stand a level above the mosaic floor and a storyboard along the walkway describes each panel. One panel depicts a woman known as the "Mona Lisa of the Galilee" because she appears to look at you from every angle. The rest of the site is also fascinating with mosaic floor and ruins of a huge theater and streets and a fortress built by the Crusaders I think. The ruins span thousands of years. Nice pics can be taken from atop the fortress.

Large and impressive archaeological site including remains of incredible large mosaics, a synagogue, a crusader castle and a Roman theater. There is a lot to see in this expansive site, you can easily spend several hours here.

Tzipori is an important archaeological site in Israel. It has one of the most impressive collections of Roman mosaics in all of Israel. The site is well laid out and there are parking places and walkways for impaired walkers. The synagogue is very impressive and different due to its huge mosaic with figures and animals. You can also see the system of canals they built for water to the city.
