To say that Africa is a difficult place to coordinate a trip would be quite the understatement. Almost every trip is plagued with poor communication, unreliable transportation, bad hotels, delays, etc. etc. And the fact that on this trip we changed hotels six times had two vehicles three charter flights and a balloon ride and every single one of them was perfectly coordinated and went off without a hitch is simply remarkable.
Our guides were friendly and trustworthy and drove us in well-maintained and safe vehicles throughout our tour. Our charter flights were better on time than Lufthansa airlines. The thoughtfulness in the planning of our itinerary and inclusion of unique experiences and a combination of different style hotels from contemporary, to lodges, to tent camps made this a most unforgettable trip.
I’ve made over 20 trips to Africa and have never had quite as unique an experience as I had in Mahale. There we trekked into the mountains and visited with a troop of chimpanzees. I’m not sure who was more of the kid that day between my kids and myself. it was a priceless moment for myfamily.
I would feel safe to say that you should just give them some idea of what you might like to do and then let them put together your experience and allow them to introduce some things to you that you have not thought about. And take that from someone who usually likes to plan every last detail himself.

Trailblazer Safari is THE BEST. From our first contact, to hugs goodbye, they were top notch in planning a beyond fabulous 8 day safari to Lake Manyara, Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti for our family of 10 (ages 11-74). The lodges Melisa chose were clean, comfortable with terrific service and delicious food. Our very favorite was a tent camp, SingingGrass, in the Serengeti. The game drives left me speechless, with each day offering more excitement than the previous in the wildlife we saw. We spotted the Big 5 ( lion, leopard, elephant, black rhino, water buffalo), plus cheetahs, hippos, hyenas, gazelles, impalas, warthogs, dik-diks, giraffes, jackals, ostriches, hartebeests, camels,monkeys, baboons, a croc pulling a wildebeest underwater, migrations of 1000’s zebra and wildebeests, and more colorful interesting birds than I could list. Our last afternoon we saw a lioness with her wildebeest kill very near our camp, the same one resting with 2 other lions in a nearby tree the day before! The success of our game drives was guaranteed by our 2 fun loving, knowledgeable, sharp eyed guides, who covered miles of deeply rutted, rough roads in our 2 land cruisers with so much skill, who offered lots of recommendations and options for each day. Guides Abu Atek and Livin Mrema were especially attuned to our 2 grandsons (11 &14), plus shared news of their families, hopes and dreams. We feel our tribe grew by 2!
We all traveled with 1 personal item and a carryon only bag in soft sided roll aboards or backpacks and didn’t wear it all. Girls brought 1 skirt we wore once. Flying from the Serengeti back to Arusha in a small prop plane required this type luggage and a 44# weight limit.

Our high maintenance family of 12 with more food allergies than I will list were treated like Kings & Queens, and always looked after. Although I’m positive we were the most difficult group they will ever have to work with we were never ever made to feel that way & in fact we were loved on and spoiled. We absolutely felt safe the entire trip even when in the middle of the Serengeti. The drivers Abu & Ema were so much more than a guide… we were truly educated about the animals by passionate animal lovers who never risked our safety or the safety of the animals. We absolutely loved our time with Maasai Tribe & will never ever forget the sunrise hot air balloon ride Melisa planned for us. The animals were incredible and we literally checked off every single one we had hoped to see! Highly highly recommend using Trailblazer as I know their are several companies to choose from & we saw many out there but not a single one looking like they were having as great of a time with their company as we did!!

This trip was a dream come true for our family of sons, wives, grandkids and even a fiancee! We went into the trip blindly ... not having a clue what to expect, yet anticipating a life-changing memory. Trailblazer Safaris was recommended to us through a relative and they far exceeded anything I could have imagined. Melisa (owner with Nathan) made sure every single detail was handled with excellence which left us to simply take it all in and enjoy every moment. Each day was like surprises at Christmas as we changed from hotel to lodge to tented camp and ended with 3 days in the Serengeti. Being able to experience the animals … the game drives … the lodgings … the food … the balloon ride over the Serengeti … along with Melisa from Trailblazer Safaris and our guides, Abu and Ema — and with my family — PRICELESS! Abu and Ema added the special touch that brought our trip to life with their knowledge and humor! Life is short. So grateful we took the leap to make this forever memory!

Melisa, Abu and Emma were absolutely out of this world incredible. They took time, love, effort and patience to teach us about the animals, went above & beyond with any requests we had, answered allll of our questions:) and were truly the PERFECT dream team. Can’t say enough about our experience- truly the trip of a lifetime!!

Melisa of Trailblazer Safaris arranged our adventure with attention to every detail! From flights to hot air balloon to specially prepared meals, everything was planned perfectly. Our guides, Abu and Ema, were nothing short of spectacular. Very knowledgeable in African history and animal characteristics. They spent lots of time teaching us about African customs and all it’s interesting inhabitants, animal patterns and activities. Our family of 12 (from 13 to 72 years old) had an incredible vacation and greatly enjoyed our time in a world we had never known before. Thanks to Trailblazer Safaris, Melisa, Abu, and Ema for making our trip of a lifetime become a reality.

For a small company they do things in a big way. The itinerary, service and attention to detail were beyond our expectations. Highly recommend working with Nathan, Melisa and team !!!

I don’t know enough adjectives to describe our incredible trip. Melisa and Abu made it a trip of a lifetime. All the hotels were tremendous. We were lucky to have Abu as our guide. It was a perfect trip. Best trip I’ve ever taken. Would highly recommend.
