I was going thru the internet in hopes to find a reliable fishing company as Ive been here several times before. I reached out to Diego owner of the boats. He texted me right back and we became friends immediately online. I brought my family here from Texas, Florida and Oklahoma. Our goal was to catch yellowfin tuna. The mate Darren worked his butt off for every fish. We all git a YF that day and had a blast. Darren made us some poke on the boat and Keith us full with pineapples. Robbie was the captain. Great times had by all. Thx Diego

The crew on both boats were amazing. We went out on the Monkey Sea once and the Monkey Shine twice.
Monkey Shine: All six in our group caught billfish - Tony (the mate) was remarkable in his ability to handle them for photos and release them gently - we have video of them swimming away. Marvin handled the boat to make it easy to catch them and he was amazing at getting us on the fish. Once we had the billfish experience - they put us on a bunch of yellowfin tuna for a fun afternoon. They prepared spectacular snacks and lunches and made for a delightful experience.
Monkey Sea - we had a terrific outing and caught a huge variety of fishes as we wanted. Again, the captain and mate were fabulous and provided a terrific experience.

My husband and I chartered Monkey Sea and it was exceptional! My husband caught a 9 foot sailfish and I caught a 44 inch yellowfin tuna which I got mounted. They worked their tails off to find us some fish, we saw spinning dolphins and that was awesome too! It was a great day all around, we charter lots of different guides around the world and they were really great, 100%recommend!!

A 5 star rating is not enough for this crew. We booked 3 inshore/offshore charters during our trip to quepos, monkey Sea being our last boat of the trip. And it was by far the best trip we think we’ve ever had. The crew (Captain Juan Quirós and mate Gustavo Muñoz) were amazing. Captain Juan was great at getting us on some fish, communicating about why and where we were going, and how other boats were doing (we had another group on a different boat). Gustavo was quick on his feet, extremely helpful, very knowledgeable, and fun to talk to. They worked their hardest to get us on some fish, but even if we didn’t catch anything we would’ve still had a blast. 7 sailfish in total, and they made it a priority to get the best photos for our first time fishers and our seasoned fishermen(women). This will be the first boat we book every time we come back to Quepos. Thank you guys!!

We booked an inshore fishing trip on the Monkey Sea. What a great decision!
Before we even arrived in Costa Rica, Diego (manager) had answered my questions via email. This certainly decreased the unknown.
When you arrive at the marina, keep in mind that you need to purchase fishing licenses, $17 each. You may use cash or credit card. The crew will lead you to where you need to go.
The marina has shopping, bathrooms, and restaurants.
The boat has an interior, so your belongings can stay dry, and there is a toilet. There is outdoor seating in the shade as well on the boat.
The mate, (Gustav) and the captain (Jose) were both friendly and helpful. The mate would often ask if there was anything we needed. The captain would give instructions on how to more effectively reel in the fish. They also gave us updates so we knew what was going on and even how the other boats were doing.
At first, the fishing was slow, as it had been slow inshore fishing for a few days, and our day appeared that way as well. In the first few hours, we managed to catch a 35 inch Snook, but no other bites. The kids did not understand how special a 35 inch Snook is, and they pronounced their boredom. However, as occurs in fishing, the fish suddenly started biting; and we had a furious 90 minutes of action. In that timeframe, we caught 4 Roosterfish and a needlefish, plus countless bites. The kids changed their minds then! The mate and captain were great with the kids.
I cannot recommend Los Monos and the Monkey Sea highly enough. The staff was great. The boat was great. The fishing was great.
If we are ever in Costa Rica again, we will book a fishing charter with this company again!

The captain and mate were absolutely amazing! Very knowledgeable and friendly. We caught 8 sailfish and my boyfriend was able to catch the biggest one the mate had ever caught. Definitely a 10/10 experience. We’ll be back to fish with them again!

February 2024 is the third time I've fished on the Monkeyshine in the last few years. They've never failed to provide a fun and enjoyable experience. Captain Marvin and Tony work hard to put you on fish and are friendly and welcoming. My wife and I fished for two days during this visit and released multiple sailfish and also caught tuna and mahi that they cleaned and bagged for us to have for dinner. I look forward to our next visit to Costa Rica and hope to fish with them again soon.

My family and I went to Costa Rica for 10 days, and one of our stops was near Quepos. Our concierge informed us that the faster boats to off shore fishing were in Quepos. We booked an offshore trip on the Monkey Shine boat which was a well equipped and speedy boat which got us to our destination in about an hour. Within ten minutes, I fulfilled my fishing bucket list, to catch a bill fish! All four of us caught a total of 6 Sail Fish while loosing only one. Captain Marvin and crew Tony and Juan Carlos put in extra time and effort to make a memorable fishing trip! I will remember this trip for a lifetime.

This was an absolute bucket list trip. Marvin and Mario abord the Monkey Shine gave my wife and I one of the best fishing experiences of our lives. We cannot recommend this Captain, crew and boat enough. This boat is FAST, we were able to comfortably get to the fishing grounds before everyone else, catch 20lb++ Mahis non stop, and the Captain went out of his way to ensure he found yellow fin tuna for us before we headed in. Mario worked non stop rigging lines, gaffing, fileting fish and making sure we felt comfortable and were having fun. Captain Marvin found the fish fast and was able to keep us reeling until we were tired! The next time we come to Cost Rica we will be personally requesting this crew and boat. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This fishing trip was the one we looked forward to the most. I have never been deep sea fishing but was so excited to go! Was worried about sea sickness but took Dramamine just in case and I never felt sick. We were aboard the Monkey Shine and it was the perfect size for the 6 of us! The weather was perfect, the water was beautiful and when it was “fish on”, the excitement and thrills began! Was beyond ecstatic when I caught the first one and the biggest mahi of the day! Man I can’t explain it! Marvin and Tony were top notch! I was impressed watching them work this boat and us lol! We also caught yellowfin tuna and that was a thrill as well! We are pulling in fish and turn around to see a beautiful, tasty lunch waiting for us! Impressive! Highly recommend Monkey Shine and this crew! A fishing trip of a lifetime! Man, I get all excited thinking about it again! Thank you Monkey Shine!!
