Visited here last Fri (having read a great review in Bradt's 'Slow Dorset' - 2012). Therefore, I was expecting the museum to be good; boy, how wrong... it was superb!
As an avid museum goer this gem of a place is up there in my favourites list. Housed in a lovely (ex-barn?) building, with attractive separate garden, the wonderful collection covers several millennia: from palaeontology, palaeolithic, bronze and iron ages, Roman right up to the 20th century.
Of particular note (and fun) is the brilliant detailed town model of the famous fire of 1731 and, for train nerds, an exact reproduction model railway of the old train station and environs.
I simply loved visiting this museum (spent four hours as so much to see). What made my visit especially rewarding is down to the excellent volunteers who were welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable and passionate.
With a nice gift shop, this museum will not disappoint. You'll definitely be guaranteed to leave with a new piece of knowledge, and whether you're a kid or retired you'll want to return again.

Located down a side alley off of the main high street, well sign posted though.
Free entry, really helpful staff, small museum however holds quite a few artefacts and exhibits. Small working railway exhibit upstairs which my son enjoyed.
Make sure to walk down to the garden which is also run by volunteers, able to purchase plants at a very reasonable price. We also got to see tadpoles swimming in the pond! Would highly recommend a visit if visiting the town.

Wow! so interesting to hear about the Great Fire of Blandford and to see the collection of old clocks, re- creation of a blacksmith's forge, shoemaker's shop and collection of old toys. The knowledgeable staff were just great- friendly but not intrusive and full of interesting stories and anecdotes- including ghost stories! No entry fee but donations welcomed. A great way to while away an hour or so and something for all the family to enjoy.

Very pleasant little museum. Upstairs model railway shut because of Covid, but downstairs an interesting display about the history of Blandford. Plenty about the Great Fire and how the Bastards ( a local enterprising family) contributed towards its rebuilding. A small shop with Build your own Queen and Corgis, or your own ‘no trouble ‘ pet. Lovely garden, and adjacent to the museum a border including a trained rosemary bush shaped like three or more balls.

A hidden gem tucked away off the market square in Blandford. Good collection of local exhibits showing the history of the town through the ages, and the great fire in the eighteenth century. Also has a working model of Blandford Railway station. Several displays for children as well as adults. Free entry
