Friday 3rd of May and we visited here, which we thought to be a Church, we were rather surprised to learn it is actually a Cathedral.

It was a rather dull and dreary day which made the Cathedral's grey stone even darker, duller and not very inviting.

Once we walked through the door we were very pleasantly surprised with interior, we were not expecting much based on our impression of the outside.

One of the most eye-catching features is the large colourful stained glass window at the rear of the Cathedral behind the altar. The Altar itself is rather impressive, with an ornate Wicklow granite base, Predella, with statues inlaid on three of it's sides. Sitting on top of this is a marble tabernacle with small golden doors, which has a golden crucifix on top of it. This all sits under an elaborately carved mable canopy supported by four circular pillars.

On either side of tabernacle are carved recesses, each filled with statues, creating an impressive sight. In front of all this is the altar table where services are conducted.

The insides and edges of the high reaching arches, on either side of the aisle are decorated with colourful patterns, which we thought to have a Moroccan/African.look.

Between each pillar there are panels with ornate masonry work which separate the two side aisles from the main central one. The pillars support a network wooden beams that support the apex roof.

There are numerous stained glass windows around the Cathedral each depicting various religious scenes in vivid colour.
Around the Cathedral there are a number of smaller altars and shrines. Another interesting feature is the carved wooden pulpit.

On a balcony, above the entrance, stands the Cathedral's organ which is overlooked by another mighty stained glass window.

Too be honest there was so much to see as we walked around, religious paintings, statues, ornate masonry work, colourful stained glass windows and so much more.

I have NEVER seen a church yet, as beautiful as this one. I have been to the big cathedral in New York City, as I grew up in NJ, but I can not really remember it so St. Aidan's is by far the most beautiful cathedral I have ever been to yet. Everywhere you turned, there was more and more beauty. The stained glass windows, the Church seats, honestly it is all so breathtaking. We were even able to take a bottle of St. Aidan's Holy Water- and one back to my Mother in Law, which was a real treat. Simply breathtaking. A MUST SEE if you are in Enniscorthy.

Beautiful Cathedral, was there for an anniversary mass. Choir were excellent. Church was full, which was fantastic to see in an era where most churches are empty in catholic Ireland.

Well worth the walk up the hill, the Cathedral in Pugin style is very calm in style. There are lots of plaques describing the restoration and historical details. It has a quiet tranquility which leaves you feeling calm as you exit the building

This church was renovated in 1994 and a beautiful job they did with it. A much less successful renovation job was done in St Mary's cathedral in 1973 by Bishop Eamonn Casey in Killarney which is also a Pugin design built around the same time as St Aidan;s where stained glass windows were damaged, beautiful floors ripped up, high alters and side alters ripped out, marble railings and statues thrown out and broken, etc. To walk into St Aidan;s and to see the beautiful untouched floors, all windows intact as they were, the restoration of the paintwork as it was, marble alter around the alter, etc. This beautiful church is well worth a visit if you are in the vicinity. It makes me despair to think of what St Mary's should have looked like if the same type of renovation done in 1973.

This Cathedral is so lovely! The windows inspire awe. And the list of bishops listed on the walls date back to St. Aiden in the 7th century! There is a wonderful peace about this holy place and is well worth visiting.
