Super cottage with everything you need for a short or long stay. Our host, Susan, was very responsive and provided check-in instructions as we checked in late. They were perfect and gave us everything we needed. With the wood faux stove in the living room and cozy spaces, it was everything we needed and more. Thank you for making our say memorable!

This little museum is punching above its weight class! Not much square footage but the exhibits were really terrific, and the docent was incredibly knowledgable and friendly! Highly recommend spending some time here and getting to know the local history!

Museum is located in the building built in the 1880's as the County Court House. The county seat was relocated in the 1920's so the building was converted into the public school. In the 1970's new school(s) were built and the building vacant until talk of it's destruction motivated its conversion to a museum. One room set up as classroom, one a museum shop. The upper floor courtroom has been converted into a multi functioning open space. One of the smaller upper rooms has a model train display. Cost is $5 for adults, no senior discount.
Good for younger children.

A warm welcome awaits here at the Buena Vista Heritage Museum. Staffed by older local volunteers who know so much about the area. Its well laid out with lots of stuff to see. We love going to the smaller local museums as you learn so much about the history of the area and how the pioneers lived and survived. On the top floor was a local art show which was also great. Free parking outside on the street and nice clean restrooms. Well worth 2 hours of your time. A lovely museum run by lovely people. Thank you from your UK visitors.

We were looking to kill some time while waiting for others to finish their rafting trip. We arrived right at opening and the kids enjoyed the train layout. Very friendly people.

I liked this place and spent two hours looking at as much as I could. It's toward the east end of the main street in town - the one with all the old buildings built in the 1800's. An authentic 1800's wrought iron fence greets you as you enter the property, which, among other things, held a courthouse, an OLD school, and then a high school in the 1950's. The historic items are placed in rooms according to categories - skiing, rocks, inventions of the day, clothing, Native American history, etc. I was the only one in the place, which gave me time to reflect on my past, since I'm a Colorado native - 63 years! I even saw an old baby doll buggy that looks exactly like the one my sister has in her basement!

What's unique about this place is the third floor. It is open and has a beautiful chandelier - the room was once a courtroom. There is a room just off of the back, and there is a huge H-O model train set up, complete with miniature mountains, mining, rivers, people, etc. It takes up the entire room, and according to the engineer docent, took years to build and place here. We talked for quite awhile, as my grandfather worked on the Union Pacific Railroad, and my father built H-O trains. I asked the docent if he could run the train, which he did. It immediately took me back to when I used to watch my father do the same thing. It was a very nice memory.

If you like history or old things, (or H-O trains), you should check it out.

Cool old building! Lots of artifacts plus a model train exhibit! The people who work there are so passionate and knowledgeable about the town and area. Engage with them. Ask questions. Love all the school memorabilia
Will I Go Back ? Yes!! Go here. It’s not expensive $5 per adult and you can do it in 45 minutes

We stopped in Buena Vista, and checked out this little museum. It was delight, full of history of the town. The little train museum showing the area was particularly delightful. This was a great way to break up our drive through the Collegiate Peaks Scenic Byway.
