Refreshing, challenging round of golf. Very generous fairways. Courses requires knowledge of your club distances. Very undulating greens. Some will complain about difficulty. Golf is a challenging game. Played 2 rounds. Learned secret..........pin placement is in valley of undulations. Put your approach in the valley and putts are manageable. Outstanding track with many blind approach shots. Mound hazards opposed to sand traps makes for interesting shots. Definitely work play again. Highly recommend

My son and I are on a 10 day road trip through Colorado. It’s a fishing and golfing trip. We had a lot of fun playing this course. We booked another tee time for tomorrow. Their are some funky holes but it’s worth your time

The Wild West revisited. This place Rocks and is a hoot to play. Jim Eng wanted to make it fun for the workers in the area. Mission accomplished. So many fun holes that you would not see on a traditional tournament course but who cares.... golf is fun again. Better play sober however or you will pay the penalty. Dolly will punish you.

Don’t miss this fun place and when the snow is flying in the north try out Four Mile. Friendly place also.

My son lives and works in Canon City so we visit here often from South Carolina. My wife and I first played here 3 years ago and it was love at first sight. The layout and views are spectacular. The back nine is a photographers dream- gorgeous views of the West and Sangre de Christo mountain ranges. Course condition and maintenance would match any we've played- anywhere. This course needs capital injection to construct a formal clubhouse and perhaps develop building lots for sale on the back 9- I'd be a buyer for sure if this would become a reality. Pay no attention to the negative remarks regarding rock outcroppings and blind shots- you're playing a course with NO sand traps so there must be other challenges to compensate. We wish all the best to the great management and crew at this incredible gem of the Rockies.

I golf about twice a week, public & resort courses mostly; handicap of 11. This was an enjoyable, but for me, a one time experience. THE GOOD: Fairways and greens are in very good condition. Challenging course with many good views of valley: fairways are relatively wide, greens medium sized. THE BAD: Miss the green slightly and you may lose your ball or not be able to hit it. Miss the fairways too far right or left; and you may not be able to hit your ball (because of the rock and extreme terrain). Lots of blind shots. THE WORST: Most greens are like putt-putt (no windmills); but extreme ups and downs and slopes, that make a 3 putt typical. I am glad i didn't go too far out of my way to play.

I have played this course several times a year since it opened some 10+ years ago. It is a quirky golf course that golfers eithe love or hate. With several hidden greens, rolling greens, elevated tee boxes and NO sand traps it’s a fun course. It challenges the best golfers and provides a fun experience to the beginner too. The course requires the golfer to plan their shots. Long fairways on some holes allow big hitters to swing big but long drives or fairway shots could spell trouble too. Moderately priced at about $40 including a cart makes it a great place to play.

May have been one of the few places in Colorado that was not rained upon this weekend. But, we were determined to find a dry course and we found it.
This course is off the beaten path, but highly thought of for a day of golf, as one of the better courses one can play.
The only negative was that it was cart path only due to the fact that it rained the night before and that was the tough part. For someone a little out of shape, it was quite a trip to go up and down the terrain and there were no knows that was just flat.
There are lots of undulations in fairways, greens, etc and will present a challenge to all levels of golfers. A few of the greens had a few elephants to die in them and a couple holes had some blind shots plus had to play peek a boo golf to make sure you position your shot between the rock outcroppings.
My goal for the day was to have no 4 putts and I did that, as I was able to be successful in putting the approach shots on the correct level.. also, just to make a par and I did even better by having 2 birdies ( thank you altitude golfing).
I certainly recommend this course if in the Royal Gorge area.

Who would expect a phenomenal golf course in an area where the chief industry is prisons? Not I. However, when I read this course was a Jim Engh- designed course, I had to check it out. This is a fun and challenging course. This is one of those courses that lets you appreciate the game of golf. The layout and the challenging holes all complement the bevy of quail, hares and other animals you'll see on the course. Typical Jim Engh course, many greens will have huge bowls. There is undulation on the greens. The architect had some mischief up his sleeve but this is a truly enjoyable golf. You'll love golf all over again.

Actually the golf course layout itself was pretty good, but the greens???...a different story. There is so much undulation in some, actually MOST, of the greens that one has to wonder why in the sam hill did the course designer do this to this course layout? There had to be some greens where there's a valley running through the center of the green, and I mean a 4 foot valley! There are others where the edges of the greens go up as high as 6 ft.! There are at least 2 blind par 3 holes too. You have to hit over a ridge and the green is aligned with a stake at the top of the 20ft tall ridge you're hitting over. I've never seen anything like it. It helps to play with someone that has played the course before, for sure!. The people were nice and I actually had fun playing it. I'm carry a 4 handicap and played with two nice older guys. I would probably go back but I would recommend it to anyone wanting to play an unusual course that's in fairly good shape and reasonably priced. Worth it.

On a vacation to see the sights in this part of Colorado (Pikes Peak, Royal Gorge, etc.), my father and I decided to take a timeout for a round of golf at Four Mile Ranch. What a nice gem of a course this turned out to be. Billy in the clubhouse (trailer, as others have noted) was very friendly and got us off to a good start. We rented virtually new sets of Adams clubs which were easy to get used to. The starter, the young guy who seemed to be managing the carts--everyone was friendly and relaxed. The starter gave us a couple of good tips, and off we went.

We found the course to be very well maintained. Other reviewers have noted the undulations and the greens that run true. We experienced all of this, along with fairways that were in very good condition. Canon City is not a large place, but they can be justifiably proud of this course. At least in our case, it gave visitors a very positive impression. Our only regret was that we didn't have time to play 18 holes. We were told that the views and hole layouts are even better from the back nine. We'd love to get back and put those claims to the test. We played the next day in Estes Park, but preferred this course in Canon City.

If you're a golfer and you are planning a vacation in this area, try to carve out some time for a round at Four Mile Ranch.
