Bachelor Loop was beautiful. I have a Mazda 3 and decided that because the road is very rough and steep in places to go in reverse direction of the guided tour. Be sure to have good tires and know to use your gears! Four wheel drive vehicles are recommended.

Stop by the Visitor Center in Creede and get a map before you head up the one-way loop. The loop starts uphill quickly and you find yourself learning about the old mines. We have taken this loop twice now and enjoyed it both times (in a Jeep).

The drive was only slightly challenging. We were in a 4 WD pickup. there is a lot of history on the loop. There are multiple great views. We even saw a momma moose and her baby!

Great 17 mile drive thru the mountains of Creede and seeing the remains of the 1889to 1894 mining community. Note there are gravel roads and recommend 4x4 but can make it without. Great vistas, overlooks, scenic highlights, etc. Youll throughly enjoy the adventure thru time!

It was lovely. We started from the south end. We got half way through, and a turn was not marked so we could see it. We had to return from whence we came.

A fun but bumpy ride into the hills around Crede. 4 wheel drive is recommended as it gets a little hairy at times. Well worth the effort.

Did a backwards evening tour of the loop, and next morning circuited it the normal way (including a tour at the Last Chance Mine). Steepest sections better done uphill. Numbered signs and map give interpretation of sites. Some incredible views of old Mine workings and geology; steep narrow canyon and rushing streams. Well worth it. Lighting for pics was better in the morning.

We drove the standard route, not the 4x4 for loop, and enjoyed the scenery. The pamphlet from the town was very helpful. It is hard to believe how many people lived in such small areas, and their work was dangerous and physically demanding. The building were impressive even though they are old. We would go back for another visit.

Can I drive my ATV from nearby motels to the Bachelor Loop ?
Escrita el 15 de noviembre de 2018
I've seen them on the loop. Probably from nearby motels but not sure. Colorado doesn't permit them on state highway roads (they'll ticket you if caught)

Can this be driven in a Chevy Malibu or is AWD necessary?
Escrita el 4 de septiembre de 2018
Yes, you can travel this road in a regular vehicle. It is suggested to travel in a counter-clockwise direction as the steepest part is just north of Creed and is easier to navigate going uphill.

During the winter, you usually are not able to go all the way around the loop. With that said... Currently, there has been very little snow so the road might be open.
The best way to find out ( aside from stopping by the Sheriff's office and asking) is to drive up towards the mines on the north end of town. If they have the barricade up. that means you are not able to make the loop.
Most winters, they barricade the road up to the mines but you are able to drive several miles of the loop by going up the south end. Do be careful if there is snow as I have seen it get very slick up there.
