Green Mountain is neither a mountIn, nor is it green. I guess it's a decent asset if you live next door, but there are so many better venues nearby than this completely featureless collection of hills. The views are only impressive if you've not seen any of the views from any of the other nearby open spaces.

If you want great views of the Red Rocks, Denver, Golden, and other area attractions, the summit of Green Mountain is great. It is a steep climb/bike ride to get to the top, so plan ahead. This is not an easy outing for those not used to the mile high atmosphere.

Ugly. Sparse. Depressing. No fun. Not worth parking your car to go see. Very barren and bleak. Makes a good set for a barren alien planet.

This was a nice easy area to hike. There were a lot of open roads so there was room to accommodate hikers and bikers both. It was only about 20 minutes from downtown and was easy to get to. The trails were easy to navigate with google maps, so there was no chance to get lost. Lots of different trails and the trails extend down the other side of the mountain and connect with other mountains if you wanted to make this into a long hike.
The views at the top were great and you could see many other mountains as well as downtown Denver. Definitely worth going!

Very good trail markers. Trails are obvious. Appreciate that they have bathrooms (port-o-potties), and appreciate the trash bin at the bottom AND top of the mountain. Biggest downside is the lack of shade. There are no trees to be found here. Wear sunscreen and a hat.

We love going here for the fantastic views. Forsberg Iron Spring Park is just to the west of the mountain if you do not want to climb the hill.

For a good walk with good views at the top of your climb, this is a nice location to know about if you don't want to drive far to get a mountain view. Lots of people go there and the picture (with no trees) is accurate. It's not a walk in the woods! Take water and enjoy it for what it is.

These trails will test your pulmonary function, that's for sure. Beware that there is no shade, so wear a hat and bring water. View is excellent at the top. In the summer, it gets very dry up on Green Mountain, so be mindful that this mountain catches fire easily.

Hayden Park is a valuable section of open space in the western suburbs of Denver. It occupies the first major foothill as one heads into the Rockies from the east. It is accessible by car and bike.
The Park has both positives and negatives. On the plus side, the park is easily accessible from many parts of the Denver metro area. It took us just over 20 minutes to get there by car on a Sunday morning from our home in the Washington Park neighborhood in Denver. The Park has a variety of trails of different length. Elevation gain on some trails can be as much as 1,000 feet, but the trails are dirt and mostly rise at a relatively gentle pace. You can find viewable wildlife in the Park. We saw a herd of Elk and a flock of Mountain Bluebirds.
There are also some great vistas from various points in the Park. If you want to photograph the foothills to the west, go in the morning, when the sun is in the East. From some spots you can get some nice views of the Red Rocks amphitheater. If you want to shoot the Denver skyline to the east, go in the late afternoon when the sun is in the west.
On the minus side, there is virtually no cover (i.e. shade) in the Park, particularly on the west side. We went on a sunny morning in mid-March. It was tolerable then, but I would not recommend doing the trail in the summer or winter. If you want to hike in the summer, go in the early morning if you go at all. Use suncreen in all seasons.
The park is near a facility used for recreational racing of ATVs, and also used as a shooting range. On the west side of the Park you are likely to hear motors revving and guns firing while you are hiking. Directional signage in the Park is often lacking, a problem we find in many areas in Colorado. Signage does not clearly indicate the elevation gain or length of the various trails.
If you are looking to stretch your legs, elevate your heart rate, and get some nice vistas of the Denver area, without having to travel too far to get there, this is a good park for you. As an added bonus, there is not entrance or usage fee. Just be sure to go at the right time of the year (early spring or late fall), and at the right time of the day.

Is this a good place for toddlers as hiking buddies?

Yes, but not on the heavily traveled walking/bike path. The fishing area and woods around Pelican Point are relatively quiet during the week and would be great.

Yes. Dogs in leash are fine. Just be sure to pick up after your dog and watch for rattlesnakes in the warm months
