Drove all the way from opposite side of town, as Trip Advisor listed it as open. It is open “seasonally”. & it was only August 24th!! Sign said CLOSED FOR SEASON: See You in May

We stumbled into this museum by accident and really enjoyed our 30-45 minutes there! Such an interesting past with so many authentic artifacts and photos! Really allowed us to imagine life in the past in Pagosa Springs!

There is so much to do in Pagosa, especially outside, that this definitely was not on our list. We were so happy that we stopped in. Love history and this place delivered.

While recently visiting this beautiful town with so many fun outdoor activities, we took a break from the sun and wandered into this quaint museum off 1st street and hwy 160. A bit obscure structure but fascinating to see actual tools and works from an early American era long since past. The artifacts are representative of many small American towns in late 1800s and early 1900s showing how people existed.
IF you are a Teacher in any capacity, especially women, do not miss the docs containing "rules" that Teachers had to follow. I came out thinking Yes, we have made significant progress for individual rights yet some of the "stated" rules that have long been abolished could still be beneficial in our society today. Perhaps they could have helped to prevent some of the school tragedies we recently experienced. Nevertheless, we stopped in for a brief visit and found ourselves thoroughly entertained for over 2 hours! While it is free admission, please don't forget to donate to the museum on your way out as it helps cover operating costs and this is one attraction you will want to see operating to provide life lessons to others in the future.

If your coming into Pagosa Springs from the east, this museum is to your right as you enter Pagosa on Hwy 160. We were fortunate to see it, because it opened the week we were there.
A lot of nice local pieces and a really nice quilt collection. There is a quilt show expected sometime during the year. Would inquire when that might be. This museum has just a little bit of everything. Keep your kids close to your side. Handicap can do but a bit difficult with a wheel chair. Obviously you will see something for the first time.
No charge but appreciate donations.
