Enjoyable speakeasy with very friendly staff. The cocktails were very good, prices reasonable and atmosphere was funky and fun. Good Main Street location.

A hidden gem! Literally a very cool bar with a speakeasy vibe just like it states in the sign outside. Great drinks. Larger than expected and very cool!! Definitely a must !!

We have stayed at the Nightingale (a great spot!) a couple times on trips to Pagosa Springs in both summer and late winter, and the Mallard is our definite go-to. We like charcuterie and desserts and they always seem to have plenty of options (as well as great cocktails), but the vibe is chill, service is friendly, and there always seems to be an eclectic mix of people that makes it a fun hang. We usually try whatever the special is, or just ask the bartender for a recommendation, and have never been disappointed!

Interior is so cool! Loved it! Service was great. Prices for food and cocktails were on point. Cocktails were amazing.

We met another couple at Neon Mallard on 8/26/23, plus we had a single lady with us. We're alI locals, are seniors, and have been Neon Mallard customers in the past. I don't know exactly what transpired before we got there but the other couple tried to move a small wooden chair from a two-person table to put it with a cozy seating section of four to accommodate our group of five. The server and bartender both strongly told them that was not allowed. We arrived right after this. We found a cozy grouping where the music was not as loud. We again asked about a single chair that could be moved to make it a space for five. We were not attempting to move furniture, we didn't want to disturb their attractive groupings. I should add there were only five other people in the lounge, a group of two and a group of three. The server and bartender said our choices were they could pull over a high bar stool or a low footstool. Their "rules" are they can't move furniture as that is the policy. We felt that was ridiculous in a lounge that was practically empty so we left.
I'm a nice person. I didn't want to write a negative review about something so ridiculous. We all thought that surely the employees were not using good judgment about this "rule." I then wrote a very polite email to the management on 8/28. I even suggested they have a few random chairs on hand (folding chairs) that employees could bring out for a situation such as ours. I got a response "We take this very seriously, we'll review the videos, talk to the employees, and I'll be in touch shortly."
I never heard anything. My husband said, "Why bother?" But I wanted a resolution. I sent another email on 9/8/23 saying I was disappointed I'd not heard from management. Then I got a response, wow, quite a response. Michael Collins, the manager, wrote a scathing email basically insinuating we were a bunch of ruffians who wanted to damage furniture, we had no respect for their establishment, and that he fully supported his employees. Their policy is indeed you cannot move furniture. (Oh, and the chair we wanted to use "is from the 1800's". If it's that fragile, why is it being used?)
So this is my negative review. We won't be returning nor will we recommend it. If you go, take your own chair.

Hi Karla, I will take the time to respond on Yelp as well, but here is the verbatim "scathing" email you received which I think tells more of the story. I am sorry for your experience, but there was more to it before you arrived and our staff all tried to handle it all with the utmost professionalism. Thank you, Annie (Owner)

I’m sorry you’re so very disappointed with this issue. After reviewing the video of you and your party and speaking with our staff, we determined that our staff was not out of line in the way they tried to resolve your sitting situation. Cody and Shawn who were working that evening are two of our longest running employees as you may or may not know. Cody tried to offer numerous options all of which we stand behind because we do not allow furniture to be moved, as the wooden chairs that you guys initially were moving are from the 1800s and much of what we outfit the cocktail lounge with is vintage. At one point in the video it is seen whom I believe to be you telling the Shawn, the bartender, that the music “sucked“ and also ask him to “turn up the lights” of which we also do not allow, they are set and to be understood at the levels that the owners have them programmed at. We could see your party moving throughout the establishment many times over, and I’m sorry that none of the other areas that could have been accommodating to your guests were not sufficient and/or comfortable for your party. At one point it is seen on video that the bathroom was practically being blocked with the furniture that you guys were trying to move, and the area you were trying to sit in. We would hope our customers treat our establishment much like you would treat any public establishment, in knowing that customers can’t take initiative to move tables and chairs. This is also for safety. You also shared at one point that your widowed, elderly friend was going to have to sit on a pedestal, yet was it out of line to ask one of the gentlemen in your party to give up their chair that had a back so she could be more comfortable? I see many solutions to the initial problem that was presented that I wish our staff had the opportunity to support you with.
Again, I understand it’s frustrating as it is not what you desired, but having spoke with our staff and watching the videos we have to also stand behind our staff as their words were not inappropriate, and they were just following policy when it comes to moving furniture. This policy is enforced for all customers.
We do our best to provide comfortable sitting areas and thank you for your previous business. We will continue to enforce the existing policy regarding furniture as that works best for our staff and customer safety.

Just no. We’d gone there in May of 2022 and it was wonderful. We were excited about going back. But we waited over half an hour and no one even acknowledged that we were there. Another table experienced the same. So we left and walked to Mountain Pizza and Taproom. Go there instead.

The only time we visited was our last and here’s what happened. It was a recent Monday night about 6:30 and there was slim crowd (maybe 10-12 people inside and about 8 people outside). We seated ourselves and promptly placed our drink orders with the server. All good so far. Thirty minutes passed and we still had not gotten our drinks. Then three of us were served but my husband’s was not what he ordered and my martini was not among the three that were served. Status: two drinks correct, one wrong, one missing. Our friends’ drinks were Ok so we insisted they not wait for ours to be served. We’re nearly 50 minutes in at this point so I decided to tell the bartender not to bother making ours because we no longer wanted them. By now our friends were already nearly finished with theirs. He swiftly followed me to our table and starting yelling at us. I am not making this up! He said they were doing the best they could. Really?! He announced “my name is Michael Collins and I am the general manager and we are doing the best we can. Your drinks (what drinks?) are on me and you are free to leave.” We were thrown basically thrown out! So if Michael is there when you go to this establishment, I hope he’s having a better day than when we visited. The drinks there may be great but we never got to try them! You can bet our doctor friend and his wife who live in Pagosa full-time will be sharing this story with everyone they know! The owner needs to find a new general manager if this guy can come unhinged like this on a slow Monday night!

This is Michael, I apologize about your poor experience at the Neon Mallard. Unfortunately that evening was your servers first night, and she informed me she only missed one drink not the entire parties drinks and was very apologetic. I comped the entire bill because of the delay, missed item, and your frustration. It should also be understood that we strive to execute our craft cocktails as quickly as possible but the reality is most of the craft and seasonal cocktails do take anywhere from one minute, and at times up to three or even four minutes to build. From your perspective it seem like a very slow evening, but at the time you and your party were here we also had 25 other people ordering like-minded cocktails. A quick drink turnaround is a simple highball, beer, or wine which we always try to inform our servers to share with customers if they have a dinner reservation or time restraints. I also would like to make it very understood that by no means did I throw you out, you very abruptly shared when you walked up to the bar that you had other reservations so my comment to you unfortunately was a miscommunication, I said I've got your drinks covered and your free to leave, but by no means was I throwing you out. I'm sorry you took it another way, and for that I again apologize.
All that said, thank you for the feedback. We are always working to make our process even more efficient.

An unexpected Jem of a place.
We stayed at the Nightingale Hotel next door, and on first approach - the Neon Mallard looked a little dark and overly done cocktail joint - not so….
Cocktails - well, yes - but they were fantastic, and very reasonably priced. Especially in happy hour!
Service was excellent.
There was an amazing pianist playing when we were there, and the atmosphere was just great.
A real diamond of a place.
Loved it

Wow! Such a great atmosphere and great drinks. They were really busy so the bartender had happened to pass by and see us without drinks. He asked if we had been taken care of and took our order. We had our drinks pretty quickly after that. Truly the best Old Fashion I've ever had. I had the Graceland and WOW. So delicious . Take the time to stop by there. You won't regret it!
