While in South Fork, w wanted to try some new things that we had not done before. One of these was Railbiking which puts you in modern, lightweight aluminum rail vehicles that you can then easily pedal down the tracks of abandoned rail lines. The company we railbiked with, Revolution Rail Co., operates railbiking opportunities in several States. Railbiking was not only truly easy to do but it was a heckuva lot of fun. While new to my better half and I, railbiking has been around since almost as long as there have been,,, well you know, railroads. Those original railbikes looked much like... well you know, a regular bicycle, but with special attachments to fit on rails, They look a little sketchy if you ask me, nothing like the comfortable, and did I mention easy?, conveyance we rode in South Fork. The railbike tour was at our own pace and each person can pedal at whatever speed they desire. Heck, you can even stop pedaling entirely and let your fellow pedalers do all the work. Not that that's what I did. Not at all. And the route is absolutely gorgeous as it meanders next to the Rio Grande River.
We also took advantage of the bike and float combo package that offered a float trip on the Rio Grande after rail biking.

Such a fun experience! There were three couples in our party. We rode the rail bikes about 5 miles and then hopped onto a raft where we floated down the Rio Grande. Beautiful scenery for a relaxing experience.

Lovely ride, beautiful scenery! We booked the first trip of the morning and as they had only recently opened for the season, it was just us. Pedaling was a bit of a challenge, (this may not be for those with weak knees or hips) but we were glad we did this ride. We went at a steady, but not fast pace. There is some 'uphill' and 'downhill', but it is so subtle you really can't see it, - just feel like you are pedaling a little harder, or you get to coast and rest. Also, a good breeze can be helpful or a challenge.
As you ride , look around you, appreciate the mountain scenery. It is stunning. At the turn around we had a little break and learned a little history of the area.
We hope to try another rail ride at another of their locations.

Sooooooo Much fun. My husband and I are already planning a trip back to do the longer ride in Aug. for our Anniversary. Beautiful scenery, friendly and knowledgable staff. Bring drinks and snack lunch.

We had a great time on the railway. It was fun and educational. Such a great way to see the mountains and river! The staff was great and super helpful. We had an infant and toddler and they were so accommodating. We can't wait to go back and do the peddle and paddle options!!!

This was really a lot of fun. 3.25 miles round trip. Went as a group of about 30. Beautiful day and scenery. Guides were great.

We had so much fun on our first ride with Chris on Monday we decided to return Wednesday night for the Full Moon tour. It was a blast. We wore lighted necklaces, rode the bikes at night, made s’mores around a beautiful campfire near the river, saw the Full moon come up and enjoyed the all the guides. The peddling is easy on flat ground and the bikes are comfortable and well maintained.
