We had a wonderful day with Wolf Creek Anglers. My husband and I did the beginner session, although he had done some fly-fishing years ago. Our guide was Jim, and he was professional, knowledge, and so friendly. I was so comfortable learning from him. We had a lot of fun while getting excellent instruction. They provided gear - including waders and boots. We fished a beautiful fork of the Rio Grande. All the while, Jim was encouraging, but also ensuring we enjoyed the day. We loved it!

Trisha was great to work with over the phone during our planning process, the whole staff is super-friendly and informative. Our family did the 2 hour instruction and 2 hour float trip. Thad's instruction on casting do's and don'ts was perfect. Presley and Bradley were great captains as well who were great with inexperienced fly fisherman!! The time was well worth our money and would recommend it to anyone that has a interest in fly fishing for trout.

The guys at Wolf Creek are super helpful and friendly. They have all the gear you need to fish on the local waters (Missouri River, Blackfoot River, Little Prickly Pear River). They can provide guide services, drift boat rentals, or just fishing gear and advice. They have a great selection of flies too.

This trip was with my 15-year old daughter. The guide did a good job teaching. We caught several fish. He told an enormous amount of irrelevant stories and each time he began a story he would stop guiding or teaching. He worked individually with my daughter for a little bit. He told her that he knew where to get the best weed in Colorado. This was not appreciated by me. She’s 15 and doesn’t need someone advising her about getting weed, especially when it’s an illegal drug in our state.

I’ve been on many guided trips in my day and I can’t see going back with these people.

Hi Lane, As the owner of Wolf Creek Anglers I extend my apologies. I do not condone this type of behavior with clients. I will be sure to get with all guides on client etiquette. I had no idea this was even being brought up on guided trips. I spent last week on a beginner trip with 2 of our newer guides to be sure procedure was being followed. I do try to keep up with trips and how things are going. I am sorry you did not have an excellent experience as we strive for. Trisha Taylor

My 8 year old son and I spent June 18th fishing with our guide Adam. For the first 30 minutes or so, Adam gave us some casting lessons. I was impressed with Adam’s teaching skills and his patience. He was very clear in his delivery, and well-organized. My son had never fly fished before and Adam had him casting rather nicely (for an 8 year old) by the end of the lesson. Though we didn’t catch any trophy-sized fish, we lost a couple of large rainbows (my fault ;-) ), and landed more small to mid-size brown trout than we could count. Adam also showed that he was a very classy guy when a cranky only man in an inflatable boat gave him a hard time when, being the only other other boat drifting the downtown South Fork section of the river that morning, Adam drifted downstream of the man and started catching “his fish”. I’d like to see that guy try to survive some of the real combat fishing that I’ve witnessed in many other places. Even in those places, people were more cordial to one another than this guy was. It never ceases to amaze me when I see someone treat other humans worse than the fish they so gingerly release. It was an unforgettable day on the water, nonetheless. Thanks again to Adam and to the rest of the Wolf Creek Anglers team for running a top-notch guide business on the upper Rio Grande!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate the feedback. I will let Adam know how much you enjoyed fishing with him. We love the Rio Grande and we are happy to hear you did as well. Truly a special river.

A few weeks ago, I was visiting some family in Creede, CO. I was incredibly excited to have a chance to fish the waters in the area, and figured I would just stop by a fly-shop for some advice.

The Orvis endorsed shop in Creede was closed--for the season (weird), and the shop across the street was worthless. "None of us have fished in 2 weeks, it's hunting season."

Frustrations mounting, I started looking up shops that I could call. No one could seem to provide me with any accurate advice, until I called Wolf Creek.

I don't remember the gentlemans name, as it was a few weeks ago, but he proceeded to talk to me for almost 15 minutes developing a strategy to fish the local waters. He made numerous suggestions of where to go, what to fish with, and what to expect. We ended up catching a bunch of fish that day, and it's because Wolf Creek Anglers took the time to know whats going on in their area and dispense extremely helpful and useful advice. I've never even set foot in the shop, or purchased anything. However, rest assured when I return to fish again, not only will WCA be getting my business, but I owe someone in there a couple of cold beers. Would HIGHLY recommmend this shop.

We took our second guided float trip with Wolf Creek Anglers this past August, '12. Absolutely a blast! Great fun! Our first trip was in August, 2011, and even though we had only signed up for a half day trip, our guide spent a good 30-40 minutes teaching my wife how to handle a fly rod, as she had never done so before, and he still gave us a solid half day on the Rio Grande River. We have easily caught our limit both years.

If you are unfamiliar with trout fishing but want to give it a try, I can't recommend Wolf Creek Anglers strongly enough. They are completely at home with novices, and will never make you feel foolish for having a pile of line tangled at your feet.

The Rio Grande River runs right through South Fork, CO. It is one of the state's "gold medal" streams, meaning it is loaded with fish, mostly brown & rainbow trout. Wolf Creek Anglers runs out of their Wolf Creek Fly Shop on Hwy 160 going East out of town. Both years we have used Tyson Waren as our guide, and I recommend him highly. He uses a very nice rigid rubber boat for his float trips and supplies all the equipment you will need. All you need to buy is a fishing license (available at the shop, or up the road at Rainbow Grocery).

I also recommend you call ahead to make a reservation: 719-873-1414. They also have a shop & guide service that runs out of Pagosa Springs, but I have no experience with them. Besides their float trips (easy, dry & fun) they also offer standard wading trips if you are more adventurous. Check out www.wolfcreekanglers.com, & good fishing!
