We visited Boston for Thanksgiving and stayed with friends. We try to find local things to do that they haven’t already done. The Taza Factory Tour was this year’s event. The tour is just under an hour and you get to learn about each step in the process as well as sample their chocolate bars and discs. They were all delicious. We appreciate their dedication to Fair Trade and all-natural production. Their unusual “gritty” chocolate is different, but delicious too.

We stopped here on our way to a stay in Boston. We have to say that it was a bit difficult to find this place as there was construction in front of it. Parking was a bit challenging too, but our visit was definitely worth the effort to get there.
We did not take the tour.......previous online registration for it is preferred, but they were willing to allow us on the tour that day. We just didn't have the time to do so.
The chocolate shop staff member offered us generous tastings of their chocolates......even offering to open bars of their chocolates if he didn't have any available samples of it to taste. He also gave suggestions/recommendations and answered our questions.
The shop had all the chocolate products displayed for easy shopping. Please note that this is not an upscale-looking shop......but it certainly met our needs quite nicely.

Taza is such a cool company! The tour was amazing - we had Brendan as our tour guide. We had a small group, so he was really able to personalize the experience for us. Of course, we got to try a ton of chocolate throughout the tour but also at the end. And we bought lots of chocolate to take home! This is a really unique experience that I highly recommend!

This was a really fun and informative experience - plus you get to taste some yummy chocolate. Easy and convenient walk from the Union Square T stop. The neighborhood is under a lot of construction right now, but don't let that stop you!

Wonderful tour! Very informative and entertaining. Christine was a great tour guide. Lots of samples of all kinds. The chocolate is so much better than even the premiums brands of "regular" chocolate.

I walked there from the last stop of the newly opened subway line. (I recommend taking a taxi or Uber.)
The shop is in a corner of the factory, and the interior is small.
There are many different kinds of chocolate. My recommendation is the chocolate-covered nuts.
You can buy it in the city, but the variety is different.

The Taza chocolate tour is fun and yummy. You watch the chocolate production thru big glass windows, and taste lots of chocolate. Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. After taking the tour and rating your experience you get 15% off everything in the shop.
Total tour last about 45 minutes, this is a fun thing to do if you are in the area. There are lots of local places to eat before or after if you are in Somerville.

Great experience! The tour gave us a lot of insights on how Chocolate is made. Our kids loved the scavenger hunt. Thank you for this great time and of course we enjoyed their locally made chocolate!

We actually did the virtual tour, got this for a gift at Christmas. It was fabulous and Christine was our host. It was incredible, interesting and of coarse delicious. Great gift idea. Have not been to the store itself, however my niece lived there are said it was worth going to.

I would like to bring my sons, but both have nut allergies and one has a dairy allergy. These allergies are not airborne, I am more concerned with the fact that they couldn't taste any samples. Do you have any chocolate that does not contain milk or nuts? They do not react to cross contamination, so it is not a problem that the equipment used handles dairy and nuts.

None of their chocolate has dairy. Some of the chocolate has nuts, but not all of it. There are plenty of samples that should be fine for your children. I'm sure the tour guide and shop staff could tell you which ones to avoid.

Is it in union square? Trying to find restaurants near it
Escrita el 29 de octubre de 2015
No, it's not in Union Square. It's located in a business-park neighborhood; didn't notice any restaurants within walking distance.
Escrita el 30 de octubre de 2015
Yes, there is a bit by the door, but a half a block away there is a parking lot that can be used.

It depends on the child. I was there on the weekend when the machines were not running. We had a 3 year old who listened and did not touch anything and was delighted to get the small tastes of chocolate along the way and before we started. He was a bit sugared out in the end, but still OK. If a child is used to touching lots of things or running around, this is not for her.
