Though not on the exact spot of the original fort this replica captures the essence of same. Wonderfully displayed and curated. Very nice gift shop.

We saw the suggestion in Image Magazine to visit The Fort and spent a couple of hours there during a weekend event. Had the special event not been going on, we may have found the visit to be somewhat boring. There are no docent-guided tours offered. There is so much history here (detailed on plaques throughout the property) and guided tours or self-guided with headphones would make such a difference in a visitor’s experience. This could be a real destination for families And history buffs as it is not far from Interstate 91 but much improvement in the presentation of The Fort’s history is needed.

We stopped by the Fort on a whim and it turned out to be a good choice. It was a beautiful spring day and the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the importance of the Fort during the French and Indian War and also before and after. The structures look quite authentic. Definitely worth a visit.

This was an interesting museum. It was enjoyable to walk through all the rooms that were furnished with period artifacts. We liked the diorama of the fort. The staff was friendly and informative.

It was interesting to spend the afternoon talking to people about making specialized equipment for reenactments. These people have tons of knowledge about people, traditions and interesting information. We learned lots of things that we didn't expect. The reenactment was something that I had not seen before. In all, it was a fun afternoon.
We saw lots of children with articles of the period that would interest them. There were weapons made of wood, like hatchets. There were period dolls and leather crafts. The pottery was beautiful. The people living there as rein-actors in the tents shared information and experiences. We had a great day.

An historic fort community that has been recreated to its period details. For the most part, not original but the volunteers are so informative that you feel transported nonetheless Great view of the Connecticut River from the tower. Many interesting events take place there so check the calendar. The volunteers alone are worth the visit.

My grandson was intrigued to visit Fort #4. He couldn't believe the amount of history behind this place. Then we all were just intrigued by an over an hour talk with the visiting Abenaki Chief. It was a high point of the summer for all of us and especially memorable for our grandson.

I visited "The Fort at #4" with two grandkids, ages 3 and 6 and it definitely opened their eyes. It's not nearly as expansive as Old Sturbridge Village or Williamsburg, but then again it's staffed with a number of volunteers that do a pretty good job. The day we were there, they had a working blacksmith shop and a woman operating a loom. There is a lot to see, but it is a self-guided tour, so I'm sure that there a lot of interesting details which might be missed (for example, it is named because before they named the towns, they simply assigned numbers to the area, so this became the fort that was located at parcel #4).
The facility was in good repair and, except for one piece of new construction, original back into the 1700's
One suggestion for the owners: Place boxes with push buttons in each room that would give a brief explanation of what is in the room. The signs alone miss the mark.
Overall, it's worth your time and exactly the right size for little ones to explore.
