This visitors center is housed in a huge, old mansion. The displays are informative and interesting. Staff was helpful to us when we asked about nearby restaurants. The grounds are beautiful.

If you are new to Sackets Harbor, the Heritage Area & Visitors Center is a great place to start your visit. First, it is located in one of the most historically important properties in the village. This is a very informative center not only providing excellent information on the rich history of the village, but info on things to do and see all around the North Country. There is no cost to enter, but donations are accepted in support of the facility. Do not miss the short video available to watch, and be sure to have a chat with the nicest host you will ever come across, Gail. Thank you Gail for welcoming us to Sackets, and we hope to see you again sometime!

We learned a lot about the entire history of this charming village. From its heyday as a strategic inland navel centre in the 1800s to its revitalization as a vibrant vacation destination in recent decades. Don't miss the 13 minute video which provides an essential overview to supplement the informative displays. It is housed in the original mansion of founder, Augustus Sacket - a modest structure, indeed.

Once we entered the Visitor's Center, we were welcomed with open arms. The lady was super nice and knew her stuff. She offered to see a 10 minute movie about this town and it was quite worthwhile to see it.
The whole history of this town is well documented here, with maps, drawings, artifacts and many more.
Mr. Sacket is the founder of this town. He liked that the harbor was protected by natural elements.
After WWII this town went through hard times. Many left the village, but now it is revitalized again. I am happy about that.
To understand the town better, I would encourage anyone to enter the Visitors' Center. They have lots of info on their walls and even artifacts. It's quite worthwhile!

We walked in and the lady got up after she noticed us. She was friendly and told us some history and places to visit. She was told us of places to eat and visit. :)

This is a lovely little town to walk. We enjoy just sitting and looking over the harbor.
Walking the town as well as the battlefield is a wonderful experience. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance of the visitors center.
Take a bike ride!

This small museum provided a great look at the characters that formulated the area. It is a who's who of important individuals in early Americana. Enjoyed the visit and conversation.

We stopped in here while walking in the town. It was an excellent first stop as it gave us a lot of the history and background of the town and area. They were very friendly and even have a 10 min video of the history along wth many old photos and site plans.
