We always rent the cabins at the Pinery and decided to try Macgregor Point. The cabin was dirty and had to spend first 15 minutes cleaning it. The queen bed is comfortable but the other two beds are hard as rock. We didn’t have a night table or recycle or garbage bins like the Pinery Cabins. The beach is very rocky and the trails all looked the same not enough interest. The washrooms are disgusting , toilets not flushing, taps leaking , dirty floors. Then the vaulted toilets stunk and some didn’t even have a sink outside. What we did love is the sites are secluded and big, the stars are spectacular and could get on Wi Fi if needed Expected more in the conditions of the park. Everything goes up in price and yet this park needs a good overhaul on the bathroom situation.

Macgregor Point has always been a favorite of ours and we have been there on and off for over 35 years. Sure we've lost a couple of nights sleep due to some too loud and likely too inebriated campers, but it is a park after all. Ear plugs are good. We've seen some positive changes, like expanding the park store (used to be wood, ice and a chest freezer with ice cream treats) to a full service store. Several years ago the ducks unlimited trail was added and it's a great and accessible trail. This year we thought we would try one of the rustic cabins, which are extremely well made. But you should know a few things about the cabins and MacGregor which may be symptomatic of Ontario parks in general. After all, in those 35 years Ontario's population has grown significantly. Covid brought a lot of new campers to the parks, and we see more and more visitors from the USA. Given the dollar difference, can you blame them. So demand is up. Just try making a reservation in July and August and you'll see what I mean. In the meantime, the Parks Ontario governing body have not really added any new camp grounds. It's been quite a while since Killbear and then Awenda became parks; and of course we lost Ipperwash.

So demand is up, rates are up; and guess what. From our observation, staffing is down, and services are down. So the board seem to have a very troubling long range plan. So back to the rustic cabins. Things you should know. No checking in before 4:00 and check out by 10:00. There is a bbque with a side burner, but if it is raining you're cooking in the rain, unless you come prepared. The mattresses are covered with some kind of rubber like material which I personally find too warm and very uncomfortable. I guess they don't want anyone peeing on the mattress. If you want a cozy fire in the outdoor fire pit a bag of wood is about $10. The wood is often damp, and difficult to cut. Of course you can buy kindling for and extra $8. I'm sure the parks Ontario purchasing department saved a few pennies a bag to land the contract with their current supplier. And the park store seems to be doing quite well on the mark up for clothing and other parks Ontario gift items. I guess you have to make a buck anyway you can.

We were in Birch Boulevard which has a comfort station. Sort of. How about a plugged sink, a toilet seat ready to fall off, a urinal push button that won't flush, a shower handle that's so loose it's ready to fall off, and rusty and corroded air vents.

So let's see, higher rates, up pricing wood and clothing, fewer staff, and facilities badly in need of repair. Where are the governing board taking our (our) parks, and will my grandchildren be able to enjoy them.

This park was one of many I visited this summer. I couldn’t wait to leave. I couldn’t even find the electrical post because it is so overgrown and unkempt. Picnic tables and fire pits should have been disposed of many years ago. Neighbours (both adults and children) were the loudest of any park I’ve travelled to. Never saw a staff truck patrolling the area.

Truly disappointing and I felt an embarrassment for any out of province or country visitors. I left early, got a partial refund and headed down the road to Inverhuron Park where I had completely the opposite experience.

Will not return or recommend.

Been to this park for 10 yrs a few times per year. Its our fav. Easy to get to no hwy traffic. Town close if need anything. Great trails for hiking or biking. Lots of water access with dogs or not. Prefer town beach on edge of park (bike to). Staff great keeping park clean and maintained. Love the birds, blue birds so pretty.

This is a large, beautiful park on the Lake Huron shoreline. I like the campsites here because they have designed them so that the entrance to each one is narrower than the site itself; with a car parked, it gives you immediate privacy, even at the sites described as not very private. Each site is separated by fairly dense forest, but also tons of poison ivy - beware. This is a very family-friendly park with lots of great trails to bike on, but I do have a few criticisms that I'm only noting because I feel these areas should be improved for a park of this size and popularity. 1) It is very poorly marked. There's just not enough signage indicating where to go in the park (this was especially frustrating when I visited in the winter months). 2) The vault toilets are heavily used and do get quite gross. 3) I don't think the park store is big enough. It is busssssy and overwhelming at all times of day, it seems.
Otherwise, this is park that I will keep returning to. It has beautiful trails and a stunning vantage point of Lake Huron.

Mcgregor Point is a beautiful park with lots of trails and ponds. Bring your bikes as it is quite large. We stayed at the cabin in Mcgregor Point. Nice spacious cabin, Queen bed was comfortable the double bed was terrible so hard! Please use same mattress as Queen for Double. Was disappointed that there was no running water to cabin, no sink. Wasn't prepared for that. At least put a sink with a drain out under to wash dishes etc. Water tap was just a few steps away but we had not brought a jug or basin. All in all it was a great time at this park!

Great Provincial Park. Lake inside the park is filled with slippery rocks and is very dangerous. The view from the shore however is breathtaking especially in the evening, Beautiful sunset and great for stargazers. Plenty of great beaches close by to accomodate beach lovers. Park store is the size of a closet, the staff were rude and always close way earlier than they should. Lot's to do, Huge FleaMarket, nice restaurants and South Hampton. Going back for a repeat this year. Park is a keeper, Some of the staff, not so much.

We went with our two kids for March break to yurt camp twice. Unfortunately we were unlucky with the where we were situated and with the weather both times.

In March 2022 we had the bad luck of being next to a cabin under construction. All the loud banging that went until after 6 PM in the daytime took away from the quiet experience we were hoping for. Also, the weather was warm making it too slushy to skate or snowshoe.
March 2023 was the worst experience and we left after only 1 night. The outdoor skating didn’t open at all last winter. That was a disappointment and it limited our options for activities. However, the main reason we left was neighbours across from us. They were two people and a few large dogs living out of a utility trailer and they seemed to be struggling in many ways….They didn’t seem very well able to watch their large dogs or to pick up after them. It wasn’t comfortable having our kids play outside the yurt due to these neighbours as they didn’t seem conscious of how to behave around children. We packed up early and I doubt we will be back. I sent a message to the park staff saying we were leaving early and suggesting perhaps they might check in on those campers. We saw other families who seemed to be having a nice time at their campsites while we walked around the park. Hopefully other campers will have a better time than we did. It had a lot of potential.

Beautiful park with easy trails that offer spectacular views. Worth the money and effort . Only completed a fraction the trails it had to offer..couldn't make it past the spectacular views. Clean park and well identified markers.

This Park benefits from it's distant locale and bucolic setting on the shores of Lake Huron. Although rained out we were able to experience the old shore line trail, pitcher plant marl turtle pond, visitors centre , beach, trails ,park store and amenities.

The level of maintenance does not match the setting however as much man-made debris was picked up, paths to washroom were muddy and rutted, campsite was filthy with garbage, an ugly picnic table was dragged out to the tip of Sunset Point spoiling the view and Park biologist giving the mushroom talk "did not know the species"!

Most importantly there is quite of bit of invasive alien European Buckthorn spreading trough the entire area. No management or removal seems to be occurring. In fact the entire time there we saw ZERO park maintenance staff except for an extremely young pair slowly cutting a few grasses by roadside signage.

The showers were also inexplicably extremely forceful and did not turn off ..this despite being told they would if button was "pushed" which did nothing! Huge waste of hot water!
