We were looking for some different experiences from previous trips. There are some pretty neat waterfalls along the coast. And we are always up for a hike. This hike involved a neato bridge so was quite enticing.

• Drive – getting there is half the job (or something like that). We had to drive deep into the forest for this hike. The road became increasingly narrow and really (like really) wound around the hillsides. I was constantly worried that I’d round a corner and come face to face with a humongous truck (the signs said Watch for Trucks). It was a pretty drive through dense trees shadowed so much that my headlights-off sign came on. A pretty half hour drive. But glad it’s done.
• Trail – what a nice big trail. Almost wide enough to walk side-by-side (but not quite). Like the road it winds around the hillsides and through this quite dense forest. About 500 feet of elevation gain (actually fall all the ways to the falls and up all the way back). Good trail. Lots of roots but quite comfortable walking.
• Falls – the Drift Creek Falls are great. They pour over the side of a large canyon with a rock face. And this is at their low. Pictures we’ve seen show much water flowing. They are pretty amazing.
• Suspension Bridge – so, we’re walking on the trail and come on this big head stock at right angles to the trail. Attached to the head stock is a 200 foot suspension bridge going over the canyon to an observation area. The bridge is amazing with these cables holding it up and three foot wide walk area. It’s as amazing as the Falls. Why here? We researched, but found no reason. It’s sure pretty and fun to walk over (and quite stable).

A great hike.

The usfs rd #17 to drift creek falls is closed you need to go in off of hwy 22 on bear cr road…so instead of not caring about the 4x8 sign that says road closed and heavy truck traffic I would go in the other way…there must be a 100 log trucks up there and it’s scary on corners when you meet a loaded on on a blind corner..they can’t stop quick enough…already had 3 wrecks 2 people went to the hospital

We hiked this trail on a weekday morning. Was busy but not awful. Pretty suspension bridge before you get to the falls. Driving to the trailhead was interesting - winding roads, very remote.

Lots of downhill on the way to the bridge and so uphill on the way back. Baby stroller not advised. Too many roots to have to lift the stroller over and it was bumpy for the little baby. Ended up carrying the baby all the way back and still having to lift the stroller over the roots. The bridge and waterfall was a satisfying view to end at.

Our family with teen daughters loved this hike, it was just the right amount of difficulty for 51 yr old mom and the teens.

This was a very nice hike, but the way to access the trailhead is more than ambiguous. Google will take you down a dirt road and announce you are there when in reality you are nowhere close. There are multiple ways in, and coming from the south one has to pay close attention to the desired destination.

Just beautiful hike! Just wait until you get to the suspension bridge! Drift Creek Falls is an easy, just over 3 mile hike. It is mainly a gentle, downhill hike with uphill hike on the return. Nice dirt trail, muddy in a few spots due to recent rains. There is the common root wad or rocks along the trail so just watch your step. Beautiful falls. Beautiful forest.

This hike was recommended to us by a local. A 9 mile drive in off highway 18, very bendy narrow road so take care as there's some steep drop offs. We bought the $5 ePass in advance as the official website states that the option to pay cash on arrival has been suspended. Beautiful, scenic in & out hike through a pine forest, culminating in the suspension bridge & the falls themselves. Stunning. As others have said, it's mostly uphill on the way back; we saw a couple of people struggling & I must admit that I was panting a bit by the end. I strongly recommend taking a bottle of water especially if hot like it was yesterday.

It is a bit of a hassle to get to this hike from the highway - you're driving on mostly single-lane forest road for 6 miles or so. But once you're at the trailhead, the trail itself is nicely maintained, with two outhouses available (although both were out of toilet paper when we visited). The fee is $5 for the parking, which you can deposit there (cash) or buy online and print in advance.

The hike itself is just over 3 miles and is a nice experience winding through the woods. At the very end, you reach a suspension bridge (perhaps the longest in Oregon?) over the water, with great views down at the river and of the Falls. The bridge had no holes/gaps, which made our dog much more comfortable with it than she has been with other bridges. At the far side, you can go a short distance further down near the base of the falls, where you can look back up at the bridge. It was worth going a little further for this additional view.

Great hike, nice trails and beautiful waterfall. Not too rigorous. Long drive off main road to reach trail head but worth the wait drive.
