Hidden gem, a must see if you’re in the area. The staff is friendly and helpful and their products are top notch. The town is also quaint and charming.

Fantastic experience, I would highly recommend a visit. Take the tour, you need about 6 people but 100% worth it. We had the amazing Miriam bring us around. Her knowledge and passion were wonderful. Even if you were not interested in textiles generally, you would be fully caught up in the experience 5 minutes into the tour.

Totally unexpected to find this over a century old woolen mill in an adorable medieval town. Trevor took us through the mill explaining all that they do to create the most beautiful blankets. Six generations of family have devoted their lives to this vocation. If in County Kilkenny, take the opportunity to go back in time, to see how Irish blankets are made, a unique and special place.

Absolutely beautiful spot. Everyone was so friendly, from Trevor with his emails confirming the tour to everyone in the mill and the wonderful Miriam.
She shared her family history and the history of the town and mill. It was amazing and humbling to see the work that they put into everything they do.
I fully recommend this tour to anyone.

What an excellent find! Trevor gave us an impromptu explanation of how the sheep are selected and graded, how the wool is harvested, carded, washed, spun, and woven through the mill and finally turned into beautiful high quality blankets, shawls, scarves, etc.
We were very impressed by this operation -- one of only two totally horizontal woolen mills (from wool to finished product) left in Ireland. They have very high quality and work with the sheep farmers to purchase directly from specific herds for their wool.
Once part of the Duiske Abbey grounds, built and operated by the Cistercian monks, now this mill is in the hands of the same family for many generations. They maintain their high quality by hands-on processes, no computerization.

My husband, daughter and I did a tour of Cushendale Woollen Mills, which was amazing. It is fantastic to see traditional skills preserved. The passion that goes into the production of their products is unbelievable. You can purchase both traditional and contemporary style products from their onsite shop or online. They showcase quality Irish design / craft at its best. I would definitely recommend the tour as it was so interesting and to visit their website to see their fabulous range of products.

I learned all manner of things during this informative show and tell. I would have liked to have seen more of the mill, but there really is not room in most of the building. However, he does demonstrate one rare and old machine that is still the best for winding bobbins. He talked about wool, the dyes, the water, the whole process of weaving, and what it turns out like if you do different things. This was a highlight of my trip. Prices at their store are the same or cheaper than everywhere else too, btw.

Fantastic tour of the mills with an excellent narrative from Miriam Cushen as to history and prospects for this, very traditional family business - well worth the visit and the town if Graignemanagh is quaint, traditional and worth a few hours and a lunch.

What an amazing experience to see this working woollen mill. We were guided by owner Philip Cushen who has a wealth of knowledge. It is incredible the craftsmanship and level of detail in the products from beginning to end. I particularly love the baby blankets as gifts.
