Great trip to learn about the coffee harvesting and roasting process. Beautiful grounds !! Was a little hard for my father in law to navigate because he uses a walker othter wise an easy excursion.

Lovely garden with a nice array of plants and trees. It is a fairly large garden but it easy to and fun to walk it.

Nice variety of indigenous/ endemic plants. Free although donations accepted. More worthwhile to me than nearby gardens that charge admission and have nearly all non native plants.

Nice place to take a walk and see the local vegetation. Clean rest rooms. Places to sit in the shade. Wear sturdy shoes.

According to signs, the garden is now operated by the community and is open on specified days of the week. We attended on a Friday and enjoyed our time. A self-guided tour is available, but we are not technologically proficient, so we just wandered around and read the signs. Two men, who were laboring in the garden, approached us and offered assistance. They were very pleasant -- good ambassadors. The garden commendably focuses on historical uses of plants by local peoples and does not focus on "entertainment" as much as on education. When we visited, admission was free, but donations are encouraged -- which are very worth making.

It's open! We visited here last week and volunteered at their Saturday morning weeding event. This isn't a super fancy garden, but it has great signage and you can buy a really interesting book about the ethnobotany of the islands (they might loan you one if you ask nicely). We enjoyed volunteering and met some really friendly plant lovers!

I enjoyed a past visit here and just found out it has been closed (and is for sale?). I hope there will be local efforts to reopen it. The Greenwells were/are a prominent family with historic presence in the Kona area, and you can visit their coffee farm.

Farmer's market is good but otherwise closed - building looks in great shape - woudl be great if it reopened.

It is a lovely place and a tribute to the positive influence of the Greenwell family on the Big Island. The reason for its closure is uncertain and no announcement has been made for a reopening.

THEY HAD TO CLOSE IT DOWN for now. Various reasons but the building is still there and you can view some of the grounds. There is a farmers market on Sunday and Fridays with lots of parking. Come by, use the clean restrooms and take a view of the spot. Maybe send a note to Greenwell and ask that they consider opening it up again.
