Located at the Aulani Disney Resort. I love snorkeling and had planned to try this while staying at the resort but quickly changed my mind when I saw what it looked like. No point of doing this if you have experience snorkeling in the ocean. However, this may be perfect for children learning how to snorkel or for a first-time adult snorkeler. $25 fee for adults and children 10 and older and $20 for children up to 9. Weeklong pass for $45 for 10+ and $35 for children up to 9.

A wonderful array of fish. Staff was great and very friendly. Could do with better snorkeling equipment, but overall: excellent.

Very fun especially for young children or those nee to snorkeling. We paid for the week, but only went once as it is fairly small and cold.

Wonderful and safe way to acquaint children and non-adventurous adults with snorkeling. The array of tropical fish was spectacular.... all colors, tiny varieties to large parrot fish. They are used to sharing their pool with visitors so they just swim lazily right by.

My 8 year old granddaughter loved this. It is one of the more reasonable priced things to do at the resort. They provide basic snorkel gear with a snorkel vest you inflate, a mask and snorkel. You are instructed to only use your arms and not to kick or dive. There is a course sand leading up to the reef which helps transition as you cannot stand once you are in the reef area. A nice variety of abundant fish. You are allowed to use your own gear so we used our full face masks that make it much easier. Several 4 year olds attempted while we were there and none were able to use their snorkel and submerge their face. I recommend trying them in the pool first. You can buy cheap kiddie masks and snorkels to get an idea if it is something they are ready for. It was a great test for my granddaughter who I knew was comfortable with snorkel gear in a pool and who I plan to graduate to gentle ocean. It is worth it especially if you are with anyone who needs some practice before venturing out. I missed seeing turtles and the excitement of discovery in a natural setting but figured it would be like snorkeling in a big fish tank so appreciated for what it was.

What a great concept. This place gives you the chance to get up close and personal with a coral reef and its inhabitants. Very cool.

There were lots of beautiful fish and the price is reasonable for a resort. They allowed even our 3 year old to try, but she found the water too cold. The water is cold; colder than the pools. But you do get used to it and I'm someone who doesn't like cold pools. They are strict about splashing which was hard for me because when I swim, I guess I splash. I didn't know that. My son was excited to later snorkel in the ocean and see the same fish in the wild. By the way, Aulani was great about my 3 y.o. It was no problem to refund her admission and my husband's since he then had to stay with her. Unless you're a snorkel fanatic, I think a day pass is enough to fully enjoy Rainbow Reef.

So neat to be able to snorkel in a safe environment! It was such a cool way to ease my kids into snorkeling and they loved it! So many beautiful fish to see. Very attentive staff, too!

You pay for either a one-time pass or for a pass that lets you return to the reef as much as you want for the duration of your stay at Aulani. As of June 2018 the cost is as follows:
One time reef entry adults: $20, kids: $15. Length of stay reef pass adults: $39, kids: $29. So If you think you would go in at least twice then it makes sense to buy the length of stay pass.
Entry fee includes mask, snorkel, and flotation vest. Everyone is required to wear a flotation vest in the reef. You can bring your own snorkel gear if you prefer but you will still have to use the flotation vest.
Hours as of June 2018: 10am to 5pm
Once you enter the reef you are allowed to stay as long as you want (until closing time). However, they only allow 30 total people into the reef at one time. If there are already 30 people in the reef when you arrive then you will have to wait until someone leaves.
They have outdoor showers at the reef and they require you to rinse off before entering the reef.
The reef space is smaller than I imagined but that does keep the fish grouped together and makes it so you are always near the colorful fish. The whimsical theming of the reef adds another layer of fun. There are different animals carved into the walls of the reef. If you swim during feeding time there sometimes is a resort Photopass Photographer who gets into the water and can take a picture of you feeding the fish. This added extra fun. Be aware the water is kept cooler here than the other resort pools. My daughters were cold in the middle of a hot sunny afternoon in June and we left the reef because they were too cold.
