Barrio: Harlem

This review happened in June 2024. My wife and I were in New York on vacation and we always visit any national park in the area if we can. We both love history and we had to stop by Hamilton Grange. First the park rangers and amazing and they really know there history. It didn't hurt that the ranger we had was also a big Hamilton fan/nerd. She really got into her short history lesson about Hamilton and the Grange. You can tell it was genuine love she had for the site. It was amazing to be the house that Hamilton lived in. Every room had history and it just gave you this feeing of amazement to know he was here and walked, eat ,and slept here. The visitors office is down stairs, they also have some t-shirts and other things you can buy. They do offer a guided tour of the house with a ranger. I highly recommend you take it. They have a bathroom on site and there is also a drinking fountain. The Grange also has a small walking trail that's nice for a short walk. Lots of shade on the grounds. If you want you can sit for bit and take a break. I highly recommend you stop by for a visit.

I finally got bzck up to the Hamilton Grange for the tour of the home after the renovation of the house and it is very impressive. The outside of the house is so nicely decorated with a beautiful array colorful plant and flowers.

The Information Room on the first floor of the house is where you learn about Alexander Hamilton’s early life and how he got to this country. The panels show his progression up the ladder and his eventual fall from grace with other Founding Fathers.

The upstairs part of the house and family heirlooms and period furniture that decorates the living room, dining room and the study. There is also a story about his wife Elizabeth, who stayed in the house for another thirty years.

The tour is free being a National Park. Watch the website for tour times.

I brought my teen son and resident Hamilton fan to tour the house and museum. It was so cool to see the reconstructed home and hear about all of the changes the structure endured before preservation. Check the website for operating days and tour times. Sign in for the tour ahead of time in the gift shop. This is a really cool experience for Hamilton fans and history lovers alike!

A guided tour in small groups led by a Ranger. Small timeless island, in the heart of a peaceful and almost opulent Harlem, a stone's throw from the campuses.
A place that pays tribute to Hamilton and allows you to discover his haven of peace and some personal objects.
Small exhibition on birth in the EU and some very informative short videos.
I recommend!!

According to NYCgo there are only 11 sites remaining in New York with a connection to this US Statesman. As part of a Hamilton themed tour, a visit to the Grange is a must. For those who are neither history nor Broadway buffs, the visit will be short, but it is free and in a part of town that is off the beaten path. Yet take into account the time it takes to get there and back. As others advise, aim your visit to coincide with the house tour. There are 2 films: one on Hamilton and the other on moving the house to its current spot. Both videos are worth seeing (they raised the house and moved it over a church!!).

We really enjoyed our visit to Hamilton Grange. We got here before opening and got in on the first tour. Thank goodness, because a group of Scouts came in and the later tours filled quickly. So I'd suggest maybe showing up earlier in the day. There was some little things to see in the basement, then the tour of the house was very, very short - just three rooms and the entry. Though there wasn't a ton to see, what is there is well done and worth the time.

Passeio interessantíssimo para quem se interessa pela História Americana. O memorial é interessante assim como o parque que o cerca. Fora de mão se não for do estrito interesse

Hamilton Grange was Alexander Hamilton’s summer home for a few years before his death. As one of the Founding Fathers, Hamilton is a famous figure and the museum at the site gives a good overview of his life and significance. As a historical site, though, there isn’t a whole lot here. It’s a self-guided tour of one floor of the house. Only three rooms are open, and they are recreations filled with mostly replica items. The house itself is nice but not exceptional, and nothing of historical significance happened here. The house itself has been moved (twice!) and is not even in its original location, so it’s not like you can “see what Hamilton saw.” And as the house is located on 141st street, it’s a relatively long trip to visit from Midtown or Lower Manhattan for what is actually here.

Very interesting site. Casual and pleasant guides. Very little of the house open for visit and house needs better upkeep. Visitor center was closed due to staffing shortages. More money needs to go into the site given its historic importance.
