Beautiful hike to a beach with tidal pools and blow holes. The lookout hike was spectacular, too.We drove up from dajing giid taking an hour 40 minutes. Well worth the drive.

We visited Tow Hill Provincial Park as part of a group booked at Haida House. The beach is absolutely stunning. The views from the top of the trail are truly spectacular. The entire group spent hours exploring the beach like a bunch of 6 year olds. Wonderful.

A must place to go especially when it is raining. Day we went it was nice and the walk out was great. Must go when tide in and see the blow hole. On the drive out there there is a good place to stop for coffee just after you get off the paved portion of the road.

The climb to the top of Tow Hill is an adventure in its self. Its a workout for sure but the views are amazing and on a clear day you can see Alaska! The board walks to the blowhole are an easy walk and the blowhole is great to see and take pictures.

On Tuesday, we hiked 895 metres to the top of Tow Hill, an isolated volcanic plug on the northeastern tip of Haida Gwaii. There was a wooden boardwalk all throughout that made the ascent manageable even for a non-hiker like me. Even though I still think that the best part of the hike was the trail itself (you’ll find yourself in the middle of a mist-covered, dense rainforest), the views on top were breathtaking and worth the climb! 😱
Afterwards, we made our way down to Blow Hole (pictured) where we watched the mighty Pacific crash against lava-like rock formations and sent water into the air. On a clear day, you can even see Alaska. It was simply magical, perhaps even mystical. The entire experience has probably shaped my view of Haida Gwaii, and I couldn’t be more in awe. 🥰

The gravel road for the last part of the journey is bumpy, can be potholed or dusty, but once you’re there, you’ll forget all about it. Stop at Agate beach and study the rocks. The hike up to the top of Tow hill has an ascent that will give you a workout, but the boardwalk all the way makes it very manageable if you’re at all fit. The views of Rose Spit and Agate beach are amazing. It’s odd that vehicles are permitted to drive on the beach out to Rose Spit. This is a Park, so unspoiled wilderness should be the rule, but for whatever reason, driving is allowed. Watch the tides as you can get stuck with no beach left to drive back. There are no services, so bring your own food and drink.

Honestly, the best part of this trail is the trail itself. yes, there is a nice view from the top, but the forest trail is beautiful. The Blowhole is really worth seeing, especially if you time your arrival with the incoming tide to see it 'blowing.' Deer wander the forest and aren't very afraid. The Totem Pole at trail end/beginning/campground is great.

The road access from Masset is partially unpaved, but easy. The hiking trails are well marked, you can go all the way to the top of Tow Hill, about 1km, or you can go halfway, then track right to the blowhole, or stay on the level and just go to the blowhole . We did the whole circuit, about 3 kms, and the views from the top are worth the climb. If you can do it all, it’s very rewarding.

I really enjoyed the board walk which was basic enough for me to stroll along - plus for the more fit members of our family who could then hike UP to the Tow Hill Viewpoint. Highly recommend.

We were so looking forward to hiking up tow hill. We did it on a previous visit. This time however made it 3/4 of the way on the groomed gravel road at which point the road turned terrible. Pot holes every foot. We bumped along for 1 km before us and another vehicle turned around. Unfortunate. The grader was parked at the road entrance but guess no one has been using it despite the road being maintained by highways.
