We were honored that the two of you chose Kamesei for your traditional ryokan experience. Our inn's oldest building dates over 100 years old. We still have lots of improvements to make, but are hoping to maintain our inn's historical ambience and traditional rooms and gardens. Meanwhile our chef continues to create his popular kaiseki-style dinners, and Kamiyamada's natural hot spring mineral water still rejuvenates our guests as it always has. Thank you again for your stay, and for your kind words.

Thank you for your kind comments. We are grateful you choose our inn to share Japan's traditional side with your relatives visiting from overseas. The old Japan is slowly disappearing, but here at Kamesei Ryokan, we try to honor the best of deep, traditional culture, from the tatami mat rooms to the rejuvenating hot spring mineral water baths, and from our region's mountain cuisine to the very entertaining dances and games with the geisha. As you mentioned, our town is fun to explore as well, with foot baths and shooting galleries beckoning a stroll wearing a yukata robe and our wooden geta sandals. And with the snow monkeys at Jigokudani Wild Monkey Park an easy day trip away, our location is superb. Thank you again for your stay!

Serenity-san, Thank you for coming and enjoying Kamesei Ryokan. We are grateful you came to our inn and appreciated the warm atmosphere of our onsen town, Togura-Kamiyamada. We have so many great family-run shops and restaurants to explore here, as well as a new Eco Tour program with guided walking and cycling tours. All the better to more fully experience the lifestyle here in the Japanese countryside. We hope you have a chance to come back again some day.

Hannah-san, Thank you for coming and enjoying our traditional inn as well as our onsen town Togura-Kamiyamada. Our town has so many great restaurants that it's hard to choose which one to enjoy, but we also highly suggest trying our chef's kaiseki-style dinner at least one night during your stay. It gives an insight into the type of cuisine that can be found here in the mountains of Nagano. And for lovers of thermal hot springs, our town is hard to beat. Kamiyamada's onsen mineral water is high in sulfur content but with a pH of 8.6 that leaves your skin feeling silky-smooth. Our inn has 5 different baths for guests to enjoy, and we encourage everyone to go for a stroll in their yukata robe and wearing our wooden geta sandals, and go to soak their feet in one of our town's 3 public foot baths. There are also 7 bath houses, each with their own distinctive qualities from fancy new facilities featuring all the amenities to rustic, simple ones that are nostalgic of Japan's Showa era.. You are sure to find one that fits your preferences. We here at Kamesei Ryokan are happy to introduce you to all the great places in our town, so we hope everyone can come and visit!

Thank you for your kind review. We are glad you enjoyed our traditional onsen inn, especially our chef's imaginative take on the kaiseki-style dinner, as well as the rejuvenating hot spring mineral waters of Kamiyamada Onsen. Next time you come, please try our outdoor family bath "Shinano-buro". We offer it for private use for free for repeat guests (or 2100 yen / 45 minutes for first-timers). Right now the gardens for our outdoor onsen baths are turning brilliant shades of orange, red and yellow. Soon the leaves will be gone and from time to time, guests will be able to bath in the onsen water as snow flakes fall on their faces -- the quintessential onsen experience. We hope you can come again!

Hi, How do I get to your hotel. I will be travelling from Tokyo via Shinkansen. Thanks!
Tyler at Kamesei will give you excellent directions

Jan-san, Thank you for your message and for your reservation. We look forward to meeting you. Access from Kanazawa via train assuming you would be using a JR Rail Pass would be to take the Shinkansen bullet train to Nagano, transfer to the Shinano Railway bound for Ueda / Komoro / Karuizawa to Togura. We provide free pick-up at Togura Station. For traveling on to Tokyo, from Togura Station you could take the Shinano Railway to Ueda then the Shinkansen to Tokyo. Alternatively, you could take the Shinano Railway back to Nagano, then on to Tokyo (more frequent Shinkansen service that way). I sent you a welcome e-mail with our tel# for contacting us upon arrival at Togura. There is a pay phone out front of the station -- you can simply put in 10 yen and dial. If any other questions, please let us know. Otherwise, we wish you a safe trip here in October. Best Regards, Tyler / Kamesei

Ginger-san, Yes -- babies are welcome here at Kamesei Ryokan. We have a 'baby bath' so you can mix the onsen water with shower water for a suitable temperature, and as someone else mentioned we have a family bath that can be used for private use. For guests that spend multiple nights we offer it for free. Also, we have guestrooms with no other rooms adjacent, so you wouldn't have to worry about disturbing others in the middle of the night. We look forward to meeting you and your baby.

Thank you for your inquiry regarding Kamesei Ryokan. We provide free shuttle service to/from Togura Station which is 25 minutes from Nagano Station. From Nagano Station, it is a 2km walk or bus ride to Zenkoji Temple. Other popular side trips include the Jigokudani Wild Monkey Park (aka "Snow Monkeys"), 45 min. bus to the trailhead, and Togakushi for the gigantic cedar trees lining the path to the Inner Shrine as well the Ninja center, 1 hour by bus. We can also provide shuttle service for Obasute Station which is a 45 minute train ride from Matsumoto for seeing the castle there. Alternatively, from Obasute S.A. on the Nagano Expressway, it is possible to take a bus to Kamikochi in the Japanese Alps for the day. So we are centrally located to many great locations in Nagano. If you have any other questions, feel free ask. Best Regards, Tyler Lynch / Kamesei Ryokan
