Kiñe, in the Payunia Natural Reserve (Malargue, Mendoza) is supposed to be an Ecologic Rural Tourism lodging. This is how it is advertised on the website www.kinie.com.ar
However this website is misleading: the website was created by a travel agency not from Malargue, not even from Mendoza, but from Buenos Aires. Moreover if you email or phone them, it's good to know that only a single guy from this agency (Daniel) actually knows the place; the others will just read a factsheet, giving you wrong information (including crucial infos on the state of the dirt roads leading there) without acknowledging they've never been there.
In reality, Kiñe is not an Ecologic lodging, but a "puesto de campo" (whose real name is La Aguita), that is a very small farm where Aldo lives with his family raising goats; they have no phone (mobiles still don't get through and you can't reach them directly). Two rooms in their house (one containing a double bed with a private bathroom, the other a small dorm with several beds and no bathroom) are available for tourists. Although the Payunia area is very nice, the farm itself is in a gully -- a smart idea for a farm (protection from the winds) but meaning no views for the visitors. The rooms are plain and basic, do not expect any touch of charm.
Overall the place is OK, but everything is ridiculously overpriced -- about 130 USD (440 pesos) for two per day including meals. The activities Aldo organizes (horse riding, excursions) are also extremely expensive. Worse, unless you get there with a 4WD, you will not be able to go to la Payunia with your car (Aldo is reluctant to use his old van, and that will cost you a lot anyway) and will need to go to Malargue to rent one or go on an organized excursion). Moreover although Aldo's family is far from being hostile, they openly show too much interest in your money, and less in making you discover their region -- not to mention the local ecology (actually you will be presented with the pricelist of all the activities right away and they will heavily insist you book as many activities as possible).
To sum up, the lack of transparency of what Kiñe is about (despite there being a website), the voluntarily misleading information given by the travel agent, and the poor interest shown locally makes Kiñe a place to avoid: either come to La Payunia for the day from Malargue, or camp. In our case, we didn't have this information and going there was a waste of time.
