A GOOD easy simple room to stay in with helpful staff. Right in the middle of town for eating, drinking, shopping and the water taxi over to Stocking
Island. I was told about this place by staff at Chat N Chill and I will stay here again when I am next over from the UK.
Thank you.

If you are looking for a luxury resort, this is not the place. However, if you are just looking for a room that is close to pretty much everything in Georgetown it is perfect. It is a basic room, but it is very clean and the AC works well. You can find great food and drinks and the straw market right across the street. The charming property is a gem hidden in the middle of everything.

We arrived in Georgetown mid-morning after several weeks out, looking for a room on a very tight budget and were not having much luck.
We eventually checked out Marshall's Guest House, visiting the small restaurant beside the Shell gas station to get information about booking a room. The restaurant seemed to be popular with the locals but unfortunately with a short stay we weren't able to see for ourselves.
After deciding to stay at Marshall's, we checked out our room. Though small and spare, it was very clean. If you are looking for anywhere luxurious, this is not your place, but if you just need a clean and reasonably comfortable place to spend the night and have a shower, this is a great option. The proprietors are friendly, the area seems overall fairly quiet but is in close walking distance to the grocery store and a couple of restaurants, as well as the dingy dock in Lake Victoria.
There was no wifi at the time of our visit in January 2019. There was also no option to pay by credit card - like most of Georgetown, cash is king and withdrawing from ATMs costs more than $5 USD, so come prepared.
Check in and check out times seem pretty lax - we checked in around 12 and had access to our room immediately, and just left the next day, no one was around to do check out so we left our key in the room, but there was never a check out time mentioned.
We paid $110 USD, the next cheapest option we found being $320 USD at the Peace and Plenty, which we were told was the budget hotel. Other less expensive options were not open at the time of our visit, which I understand to be the start of the busy tourism season.

This place is really off the grid-- No website, no email- Just a local phone number that rings in the restaurant. My brother and I were looking for an inexpensive lodging option in downtown georgetown, and other than the peace and plenty, this is it- the Two Turtles Inn is closed. Not having rented a car, and departing from the marina the next day, we needed to be able to walk everywhere- the bank, straw market (great place for souvenirs!), grocery store, bars, and restaurants.
It is not much to look at from the outside, but the rooms were clean, the air conditioning worked very well (!!) there was satelite TV, and a clean mini fridge - all for about half what the Peace and Plenty costs. There were two full size beds, pretty comfortable with clean sheets. There is an attached diner on the property that is very popular with the locals and marina crowd-- breakfast is the best and most authentic in Georgetown, serving "sause" A breakfast stew of either chicken, pigs feet, conch or seafood with potatoes in a broth, to be soaked up with a large slice of corn cake.
There is no 'beach' in town, just a marina or two, but the Club Peace and Plenty has a water taxi (10am out-4pm return) to a very nice and secluded private beach for $10 bucks round trip-- they have a grill that serves awsome hot dogs and conch burgers, and cheaply priced Kaliks (beer of the Bahamas) with lounge chairs right on the water. Miles of secluded- basically deserted beaches- the Nicest sand and clearest water I have seen in my life. The bar at the Peace and Plenty is the center of nightlife for the tourist crowd here, but to get the good food and local vibe head about 1.5 miles north of town to a collection of about a dozen "snack shacks" that serve all kinds of food- fried conch and fish, ribs, etc. Great drinks too-- everything is on the water. Every night there are dozens, if not hundreds of people that gather here- the real town square of the island. Its possible to walk it, otherwise it is a $10 cab ride.
We were on the island for a few days in August and there were basically no tourists there-- Completely deserted beaches. This is a very "no frills" town- not a single 'chain store' anything, but that makes it much more interesting and special--this is just a bit further off the grid than most people go, but you will be well rewarded for it.
A word of caution, and I found out the hard way: There is cell phone service on the island, but it is over $2.00 a minute. I had a $300.00 phone bill that month, and 19 times out of 20, the call wouldn't even connect. That didn't stop the cell company from charging me $2.00 per try though. The pay phones also don't work on the island, and there are no phones in the rooms-- so come prepared to unplug from the grid. There is, however, a fairly reliable internet connected computer in the lobby of the Peace and Plenty.
The "cabs" are actually brand new Chevy Tahoes-- the nicest "taxis" I have ever seen. Well worth the $25 to the airport or elsewhere.
Must Do's:
1. Get a straw hat at the straw market
2. Have a Bahama Mamma from Doc at the poolside bar at the Peace and Plenty
3. Have a Conch Burger and a Kalik at the Peace and Plenty beach club
4. Hike over to the ocean side from the Beach Club-- 3 miles of the most beautiful beach you have ever seen, and not another person in sight.
5. Order a "fried Conch Snack" at the 'Snack Shacks'-- right out of the water, and very inexpensive!
