We spent a truly wonderful month at Chalet Ryokan in Megeve. The chalet was lovely--comfortable, charming interiors and picturesque views. It is very large, especially with the downstairs apartment combined. At one point we had four children and eight adults staying, and we all had plenty of room. The garden is nicely done and very safe for children. The deck areas allowed us to eat and entertain inside as well as out. Almost all of the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms with very high quality jacuzzi tubs and separate showers. The linens and towels are very good (Delorme, etc), and the kitchens (there are two) are very well equipped. The location of the chalet is ideal. It is a five minute walk from the pedestrianized center of town, but tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac, so there is no traffic. I highly recommend the housekeeper, Annie. She is excellent, honest and reliable, and she also told us about some hidden local sites that our children loved visiting. For anyone who has not been to Megeve, I cannot say enough good things about it for a family. It has spectacular hiking, incredible restaurants, a recently refurbished aquatic center, good playgrounds, a really fun summer luge, a carousel, an art center, multilingual screened babysitters from the tourist center, and a safe and beautiful walking town that is fun for everyone. Plus, there are evening events all the time (concerts, performances), and two cinemas. If you have time for day trips, the list is endless--Chamonix, St. Gervais, Aoste, Evian, Geneva--we spent a month, and we wished we had had the whole summer! …
