One of the highlights of our trip to Norway was staying at Guddalstunet. We were warmly welcomed by Kirsten who made our stay special- especially with the fantastic home-made breakfast she brought to our cabin! The area (Rosendal) is beautiful and the farm and cabin were delightful. We took walks up the mountain and down the fjord. I am only sorry we didn´t stay longer- one day is not enough! Hopefully we will return...

I booked a short break at Guddalstunet after reading some romantic suggestions on the forum. This is a holiday cabin with a view down to the Hardanger Fjord from the small area called Guddal. It is delightfully quiet and serene. If you need to recharge your batteries this is where to do it! You will however, need a car (as you would for anywhere round here). The cabin itself is rustic. You pay a little extra for bed linen (which I think happens elsewhere too). Do bring a towel with you! I would say the bathroom is a bit dissapointing (the basin looks like something a surgeon scrubs up in before operating). The rest of the cabin, is charming but we couldn't get the fire working without smoking into the lounge area. There are little electric heaters though so you shouldn't get cold. As you sit on your terrace from an elevated position you can hear the distant roar of a waterfall and the chirp of little wagtail birds. We also heard owls at night and what we thought could be a mouse. The kitchen was adequately kitted out for what we needed for four days. We only prepared simple meals. There is a little shop at the turn off for Guddal where you can buy provisions. Preparing our own meals saved a lot of money in Norway as it is very expensive. There also aren't that many restaurants in this area. There is a tele but you'll only get Norwegian stations. You don't really need it anyway. The point is to spend a lot of time sat on your private terrace which is covered over with glass. You can sit in all weathers admiring the view, reading a book, breathing in the clean air and smelling the pine trees. The beds could be a little hard for some but I kind of like firm beds. Personally I am already planning a return visit in the winter season. Travel to Guddal by taking the road from Haugesund airport to Stanevik and taking the car ferry to Utaker. Then follow the road round the fjord coastline to 4km south of Rosendal, turning off from Guddal. The car ferry wasn't too expensive. You can also go by road if you travel all the way to Odda and take the long toll tunnel (11 km long) under the Glacier. We went by car ferry but came back the other way to check out some different scenery. You'll need a good few hours to get there, particularly if you want to stop on the way to admire things!
