We had booked this B&B online in advance of our trip. The pictures looked nice and the price was right. Description sounded very appealing but we were rather disappointed upon arrivial.
The place is in need of some maintenance and tidying up around the property as there were a few old vehicles parked around the buildings which were a bit of an eye sore. The biggest disappointment which started us off on a bad note was that upon our timely arrival mid afternoon there was no one home. A note was stuck to the window which said that no one would be home until 6:30 p.m. even though checkin is at 4:00 p.m. There should have been arrangements made so that we could have let ourselves in. We had been travelling and exploring most of the day and were hot and tired when we arrived. We just wanted to get in and have a shower and get ready to go out for supper.
Needless to say, we had to do some more driving and exploring up the shoreline and we did find a nice park that overlooked the water. We enjoyed a drink from our cooler and noticed four seals playing out on some rocks. That was a nice bonus. We then found an amazing Scottish pioneer cemetery in the woods next to the park and we enjoyed finding the old tombstones dating back to the 1700's !!
We proceeded back to the B&B but still no one so we decided to go into Lower Montague for our dinner even though we couldn't change or freshen up. We went back to the B&B after our meal at about 6:00 and still no one home. We waited. Our hostess did show up at 6:30 p.m. By then my husband was none too happy but our hostess was apologetic and gracious. She showed us to our room on the second floor.
The room was quite stuffy because it happened to be quite a hot day that day. There was no fan or a/c or ceiling fan which wasn't very good for sleeping even though I had the window open. The bed was a king and quite comfortable. We had to listen to rowdy neighbours on into the night also but that was no fault of our hostess.
We left early the next morning to go into Charlottetown to see the Royal couple and our hostess did pack our little cooler with fruit, drinks and snacks which was nice of her although it replaced our breakfast. By the way, we DID meet Prince William and Kate. Very thrilling.
The description of this B&B online was a bit misleading. We have had many experiences with bed and breakfasts and this was one of the most disappointing for the costs. Amenities were just not up to par. It would have been nice to have had more outside seating and amenities. The house was on a little hill which overlooked the water - that was nice.

Respuesta de Mary M, Owner de Mary MacQueen's by the Sea B & B & Retreat Centre
Respondida el 23 de jun de 2016
We have just become aware of this review and we thank our guest for taking the time back in 2011 to leave her comments. I am sorry that she did not enjoy her stay. Over the past 14 years we have had many guests from around the world who have left wonderful reviews (Not on Trip Advisor, but in our guest books, etc. We are very new to Trip Advisor). Many have returned a number of times to stay with us. We have made many improvements over the years and continue to do so each year. We welcome suggestions from our guests and we look forward to meeting many wonderful folks again this year.
